QuoteBelfast Churchgoers Challenge GORGOROTH's Anti-God Message; Video Available - Dec. 4, 2008

Video footage of a group of Free Presbyterians protesting at GORGOROTH's November 23, 2008 concert at Limelight in Belfast, Northern Ireland can be viewed below (clip shot by GORGOROTH guitarist Teloch).

The Rev David McIlveen reportedly led outraged churchgoers to the club.

Speaking to the News Letter in September 2008, McIlveen said about the Norwegian black metal band's appearance in Belfast, "This reprehensible group's influence on the young may push them to evil acts and lead to the fragmentation of family life.

"Organizers need to rethink their decision to give them concert time in Belfast as the majority of people in Northern Ireland will be highly offended by their apparent anti-God message.

"Anything that is detrimental to the Christian belief must be challenged and I will be doing that."

But Limelight publicist Ian Wilson countered: "We book bands with absolutely no concern about their religious or political viewpoints. It's just music."

According to GORGOROTH's lead singer Gaahl, the goal of black metal is to turn its practitioners into "the true Satan."

In an interview with The Observer in 2005, he said: "Black metal was never meant to reach an audience. It was purely for our own satisfaction. Something entirely self-centered.

"The shared goal was to become the true Satan; the elite human, basically. The elite are above rules."

Gaahl stoked controversy in a Canadian documentary called "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", in which he spoke out in support of a spate of arson attacks on churches linked to the Norwegian metal scene.

He said: "Church burnings and all these things are, of course, things that I support 100 percent and it should have been done much more and will be done much more in the future.

"We have to remove every trace from what Christianity and the Semitic roots have to offer this world. Satanism is freedom for the individual to grow and to become Superman. Every man who is born to be king becomes king. Every man who is born to be a slave doesn't know Satan."

Armed robbers have stolen at least 80m euros ($102m, £70m) worth of jewels from one of Paris's most prestigious jewellery shops, police say.

As many as four robbers, two disguised as women, stormed Harry Winston's store near the Champs-Elysee and stole nearly all its valuables.

They spoke French and another language, seemed well informed and knew the names of some of the staff, police say.

The store was hit by another robbery almost 14 months ago.

Armed robbers then stole an estimated 10m euros ($13m) worth of valuables.

Staff hurt

The BBC's Alasdair Sandford, in Paris, says the latest robbery is one of the country's most serious for decades.

Around 10 people and 15 staff were in the store on Thursday afternoon when the robbers entered.

Police said some were disguised as women and appeared to know their way around - addressing some of the staff by their names and identifying where stock not on display was being stored.

Once inside they brandished handguns and acted quickly and violently, rounding up staff and customers, our correspondent adds.

They overturned display cases and emptied the shop of nearly all its stock. Some of the staff were said to have been hurt in the robbery.

Harry Winston is situated on the fashionable Avenue Montaigne and attracts a wealthy clientele from around the world, from royalty to film stars.

The company said in a statement: "We are co-operating with the authorities in their investigation.

"Our first concern is the well-being of our employees."

A drink-driver who killed a father and son in a motorway crash was performing a sex act on himself minutes before the collision, a court heard.

Imran Hussain was driving at speeds of up to 120mph minutes before ploughing into the back of a Fiat Punto carrying the Proctor family, from Wakefield.

Gary Proctor, 47, and son James, 16, died in the smash on the M62 motorway near Rochdale, on 3 August.

Hussain, of Bradford, was jailed for eight years at Manchester Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of driving with excess alcohol at a previous hearing.

The court heard that Hussain's penis was partially exposed when motorists came to his aid after the crash.

WTF indeed!

Police to return 'wedding gifts'

The police have been told to return suspected stolen goods to a woman who argued they were her wedding presents.

The district judge at Londonderry Crown Court made the order on Friday.

The court heard the police seized items including 35 pairs of workmen's boots and flatscreen TVs from a house in Strathfoyle in April.

But Ellie Stokes, from Cornshell Fields in Derry, argued they were her wedding presents. She is to marry her fiance on Monday.

A computer, two oil burners and other electrical and household goods were also seized.

The police said they believed the house in Strathfoyle was a "drop-off" for stolen goods.

The district judge said the items should be returned to Miss Stokes because there was no evidence to prove they were stolen.

Miss Stokes said she did not want the boots returned

A 40-year-old US man allegedly robbed a Chicago bank using a threatening note written on the back of his own pay slip, which was printed with his name and home address.

Thomas Infante of Cary, Illinois, walked into a Fifth Third Bank at 5.50pm local time and handed a teller a note that read "Be Quick Be Quit (sic). Give your cash or I'll shoot", according to an FBI affidavit filed on Monday. The teller gave the man about $US400.

The robber left behind his demand note, written on a torn half of the pay slip.

Investigators found the other half of the note - with Infante's name and home address - outside the bank's front doors.

The pay stub showed Infante was paid $US165.99 by Jewel Food Stores on October 23, according to the FBI.

"It's fairly unusual that we see something that specifically stupid," said FBI spokesman Ross Rice.

"But overall, we see a lot of strange bank robberies."

The bank teller described the robber as a man in his late 30s with brown eyes and no front teeth.

Investigators learned Infante may have been living at a home less than two blocks from the bank. They interviewed his brother there, who said Infante had been there earlier and had left a brown jacket behind - the same one seen in a security videotape of the robbery, according to the FBI affidavit.

His brother, shown a photograph taken from the bank security video, also identified him as the robber.

Infante was arrested at his Cary home and later admitted to the robbery, according to the FBI affidavit.
