SKY is announcing that Discovery channels are ending on 31-1-2017:

Being confirmed on Discovery:

It appears that SKY will pay well over the odds for soccer but not for factual channels watched by as many if not more viewers.

Well f**k that, includes Eurosport, the only reason I took on & stuck with a HD subscription.

Where can the Discovery channels be watched after that date?
Ive always wanted them but didn't want to pay for Sky subscription....thank god I didn't change from BT in September past!

If Discovery Channel UK is anything like Discovery Channel USA, you'll not be missing much. Pure dung in recent years, going with reality and pseudoscientific bullshit at the expense of nature and science documentaries.

Great show :) - Todd is having a mare this season.  I also quite enjoy hows its made as well but it may be on Quest
Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience

No idea who's right or wrong but I'd say Discovery needs Sky more than Sky needs Discovery? Where else will they get as big a platform for their channels. Not sure I agree with OPs opinion that these channels have bigger audiences than the major sports events.

I'd miss Eurosport's the most, hopefully they'll still come to some agreement.

Pain in the hole with Eurosport going. I would watch Eurosport a right bit, especially the cycling events.

In 2014/15, Sky Sports recorded an average audience of 1.3 million for its 116 live matches and BT Sport averaged 770k viewers for its 38 live matches.

In 2016-17, Sky Sports viewing figures are down by 19% and each games costs £11m.  BT viewing figures for some Champions League games were down by 40%.

5.5 million viewers watch a Discovery channel programme each week.

I can't imagine that Discovery channels cost as much as the Premier League on Sky.

I think we'll see a Major drop in bids for the rights next time round as BT and sky come to realise that it not worth it commercially. Would be great to get to an affordable price point.  Either that or they'll start a heavy craic down on all the streaming services.

if there was any justice in the world . Sky wiould have to reduce subscription charges strait away . if they are losing prob 15% of the channels people watch but no they probably raise them next year 'to ensure we maintain quality;
cant imagine that in any other industry
