I'm no fan either but it's ludicrous. Starmer gets the same touch too from various papers.

I've said it before but imagine Donaldson was in SF. The outcry would be off the scale.

The "establishment" really can't have them at all.

Spot on.

You'll have the c***ts pretending to care about Paul Quinn on next.

Anybody know what messages were sent to the boy? Seems to be over the top coverage on it, but then again it's politics and looks terrible considering the recent McMonagle stuff.

From the boy's statement. As a parent I'd consider this grooming. Not acceptable in any way.

"When I first received messages from Niall Ó Donnghaile in early 2023, it was innocent. Niall would view my Instagram stories and like them. At that time I remember thinking: "Wow. I must be doing something well if a senator is showing me support."
But things escalated as time went on — and by spring I was being asked inappropriate requests and questions. I knew this was wrong immediately, but was originally fearful of reporting it to the central party as the safety culture of the party was visibly not present.""

It is entirely of their own making though. There is no stitch up here. Are the media supposed to ignore it just because there is an election coming up on an undecided date? Do you think if a senior member of the DUP was sending inappropriate messages to a minor there wouldn't be a field day? Were you around for RHI? There were books written about it.

I actually think the proportion of column inches dedicated to this issue is far higher than what was given to Donaldson for a far more serious issue(s). SF actually didn't go to town on Donaldson too in retrospect.

Its comparing apples and orange though. There is an upcoming court case for Donaldson. They have to be very very careful what they report or they could scupper the whole thing. Rest assured when the time comes it will get more coverage than the Irish Rugby trial.

Also, as far as I recall, nobody prominent in the DUP gave a public statement lauding Donaldson.

If you genuinely believe this, then you're so blinkered there's no point in expecting you to be in any way objective about this. Jeffrey was the lead item on the UK news bulletins and will be again come the trial.

As somebody said, there may be a genuine case that there's an unfair level of scrutiny on SF, but is entirely of their own making. In isolation the smashed painting may seem trivial, but given the timing, pretending it doesn't compound things or that it's all "nothing to see here" is wilfully ignorant. Childish behaviour that brought further attention the party could have done without.

That debate is over on the Fine Gael thread. You know...the thread where you've been ignoring posts on how that party overspent £1500,000,000 on building the world's must accidentally expensive hospital, and ignoring posts about how Pascal Donaghue has been taking orders from Israel to stall the Occupied Territories Bill. You remember the thread now? No? C'mon, you've bound to know it. It's the thread in which you recently attempted to play down the €355,000 Fine Gael spent on building what I can only assume is the world's most expensive bike shelter.

Rossfan

The oul SF deflector is at full throttle ;D .

But then I remember you're not the SF spokesperson here.

Remind me again which party leader has spent the last 2 weeks apologising in the Dáil?

Maybe time you switched to Aontú?
