There's only one available option on this:
Do absolutely fcuk all for another 5 years and hope for the best.
It has worked before and it will work again.

My big worry is that even a 25k ultra-bare bones stadium could be a complete white elephant and financial madness in terms of what Ulster GAA can afford based on what they can finance without the Euros money.

Pairc Ui Chaoimh has saddled Cork GAA with millions in debt for literal decades to come. If Casement turned out similar, all of the Ulster counties would take a massive hit in terms of finances - with no money available for anything bar paying off millions and millions of interest and debt for years to come.

Sportacus

Was never happening.

NI is too divided and unworkable, no doubt DUP undermined it at every corner.

Ulster Council, like most bodies in the north, were too amateur to handle it.

SF just talked big - empty vessels. (And spoofers like O'Dowd straight away ruling out water charges did them no favours with a cash strapped UKG).

Antrim GAA, just aul men sold a pup.

UK Government - wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them, particularly the NIO.

A shambolic exercise from start to finish. Epic.

Does it even need to be state of the art?

A decent stand on one side for most of the games that would be played there and safe standing room/terraces on the other 3 sides for the few games that would attract a large crowd.

Even though the Unionists might try to claim they got this cancelled I doubt London paid much attention if any to anything they said.

When Starmer was coming out with cuts to the winter fuel allowance it was always a relatively easy political decision not to hand over hundreds of millions to the same folk who closed the gates on Casement more than a decade ago to complete a time sensitive project than was good odds of turning into a major international embarrassment.

The big question is can anything at all be possibly salvaged from this mess.

GTP

Build a pile of houses on it. Casement was only worth redeveloping if funding in place from government. It is nowhere near an ideal site for a decent sized stadium with parking and access significant issues.

Rossfan

Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Aye, as Clones would be hot on their list of places

Sportacus

Put the Irish Gov money into a Clones upgrade and keep it for Ulster Finals.

Use the Executive and GAA money to build Casement Plan B - basically an Athletic Grounds+ in Belfast.  And give it back to Antrim, with good governance commitments made, and with an obligation for MacRory finals etc.

And never let the British Government darken the door again.

A quick end to the whole sorry episode.
