Build a pile of houses on it. Casement was only worth redeveloping if funding in place from government. It is nowhere near an ideal site for a decent sized stadium with parking and access significant issues.

Put the Irish Gov money into a Clones upgrade and keep it for Ulster Finals.

Use the Executive and GAA money to build Casement Plan B - basically an Athletic Grounds+ in Belfast.  And give it back to Antrim, with good governance commitments made, and with an obligation for MacRory finals etc.

And never let the British Government darken the door again.

Acted the dick = Obtained & won a Judicial Review on the unlawful granting of planning approval which highlighted major health and safety concerns with the proposed stadium. So much so that the GAA entirely redesigned the stadium.

Does it even need to be state of the art?

A decent stand on one side for most of the games that would be played there and safe standing room/terraces on the other 3 sides for the few games that would attract a large crowd.

This is all it ever had to be and all it ever should have been. One stand. One covered terrace facing it and then two end open terraces.

Reasonable build cost, reasonable maintenance costs and all matched to the actual demands.

There was never a need for an all-seater or anything approaching a nearly all-seater. The use profile of GAA stadia just doesn't fit that. Even Croke Park is too biased toward seats.


Unfortunately too many who can talk a good game got themselves involved in making decisions far above their brainpower.

Just another example of the folly of Sinn Fein proping up the failed statlet. They have no influence or power and the place is still run by the faceless men and women as before. They may have nice titles and big offices but it means nothing. They can do nothing unless their masters allow them to. There is certainly truth in this. SF seemed to have been strung along again on all sorts of broken promises. Meanwhile the DUP have already signed over the football money and as I said earlier had no problem getting 60 odd million together for a f**king ice bowl.
