Do absolutely fcuk all for another 5 years and hope for the best.
It has worked before and it will work again.

Build a new toilet block in Clones.

Aye that will solve the fecking roads on the way in

Sure aren't they going to rebuild the railway line.

Aye, as Clones would be hot on their list of places

Don't be silly, Clones is only there as it is on the way to Cavan

One translink carriage, £100 return, probably have to bus it part of the way due to works on the line, booked out in 10 minutes.

Like the idea of doing it up and give it back to Antrim, They been fucked over past 15yrs with this mess. Let it be used for GAA and nothing else.

If the local residents around Casement hadn't acted the dick then the stadium could have been built.

So, I blame the local residents. Dicks.

I'd have thought  updating that bike shed would  be top priority

Quote from: GTP on September 13, 2024, 08:53:09 PMBuild a pile of houses on it. Casement was only worth redeveloping if funding in place from government. It is nowhere near an ideal site for a decent sized stadium with parking and access significant issues.

True

Quote from: Sportacus on September 13, 2024, 09:02:05 PMPut the Irish Gov money into a Clones upgrade and keep it for Ulster Finals.

Use the Executive and GAA money to build Casement Plan B - basically an Athletic Grounds+ in Belfast.  And give it back to Antrim, with good governance commitments made, and with an obligation for MacRory finals etc.

And never let the British Government darken the door again.

A quick end to the whole sorry episode.
Sensible suggestions

British government is the most cynical shower of bs no matter which party in power. Grant an inquiry into murder of Pat Finucane and two days later refuse inquiry into murder of Sean Browne and announce no Casement Park funding. No coincidente all that timing knowing unionism/loyalism be pi**ed off then this news get them pleased again.
Then there's an Irish government sitting on €13 billion they fought against getting in tax from Apple.
We're being taken for mugs.
I prefer Clones anyway!

Acted the dick = Obtained & won a Judicial Review on the unlawful granting of planning approval which highlighted major health and safety concerns with the proposed stadium. So much so that the GAA entirely redesigned the stadium.

But yeah, acted the dick....

Quote from: dec on September 13, 2024, 08:48:06 PMDoes it even need to be state of the art?

A decent stand on one side for most of the games that would be played there and safe standing room/terraces on the other 3 sides for the few games that would attract a large crowd.

This is all it ever had to be and all it ever should have been. One stand. One covered terrace facing it and then two end open terraces.

Reasonable build cost, reasonable maintenance costs and all matched to the actual demands.

There was never a need for an all-seater or anything approaching a nearly all-seater. The use profile of GAA stadia just doesn't fit that. Even Croke Park is too biased toward seats.

Unfortunately too many who can talk a good game got themselves involved in making decisions far above their brainpower.

Hope today proves a dose of reality to those people who thought Labour aren't as big a shower of odious bastards as the Tories. Starmer is a complete cnut. His wee proconsul's oul boy will be spinning in his grave.

Saffrongael

Telling that there is zero commitment of any funding, not just no euros but no mention of funding for a smaller stadium for GAA
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

Why would you think changing the name of those in power would or had ever had a positive effect on this place?

None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Just another example of the folly of Sinn Fein proping up the failed statlet. They have no influence or power and the place is still run by the faceless men and women as before. They may have nice titles and big offices but it means nothing. They can do nothing unless their masters allow them to. For weeks they have have been promising Casement, City deals, road builds etc, etc.

There is certainly truth in this. SF seemed to have been strung along again on all sorts of broken promises. Meanwhile the DUP have already signed over the football money and as I said earlier had no problem getting 60 odd million together for a f**king ice bowl.
