TV3 WINS EXCLUSIVE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RIGHTS

TV3 today announced it has secured exclusive Irish terrestrial rights to Tuesday night UEFA Champions League matches for three seasons commencing September 2009.

The deal includes 16 live and exclusive first pick matches, exclusive terrestrial highlights for all Tuesday night matches and delayed rights to all other matches in the competition.

This announcement sees the return of the world's biggest club football tournament to TV3. The new deal also includes Round 3 of the UEFA Champions League qualifying games and an extra match night in the Round of 16.

Commenting on today's announcement Pat Kiely, TV3's Commercial Director said:

"Off the back of both Rugby World Cup 2007and last week's hugely successful launch of live GAA Championship coverage, this is a major coup for TV3 which ensures year-round live premier sport on the channel. The UEFA Champions League is as good as it gets in club football and it just continues to grow in prestige and popularity. We are really looking forward to working with UEFA and TEAM, their marketing partner, in providing top class Tuesday night coverage."

oh sweet jesus. I know we all complain about dunphy, brady & giles but I'd seriously rather watch paint dry than tune into TV3's soccer coverage. At least it's only tuesday night games, I suppose.
