Hva ehtta one with all the pop-ups - scan disk or something?
What is the best what for getting rid of the bastards.
Apart from running your antivirus software scan or antispyware scan, google the title or address of the popups with spyware in the title.
You will find other discussions about it and quote often get a specific fix for that virus, e.g. smitfraudfix etc
Download spybot search and destroy for www.spybot.com (http://www.spybot.com). Make sure run the spybot update before you can the PC.
Run your virus scanner, again make sure its up to date. If you don't have a virus scanner, download Avast Home edition (Free) or AVG Anti Virus. I prefer Avast myself.
Run Windows Update to download any security patches from Microsoft.

stay off the porn ;)
Ha wish it was porn, would have got enjoyment out of it. Downloaded Limewire a few days previous so I have a feeling it was the culprit.
The free security programmes like SpyBot and AVG will get certain things, but they're not as good as some of the subscription services (AVG have a subscription service too, so they obviously don't give you the complete package with the free one). Definitely better than nothing though, and they might solve your problem.
Cert limewire corn, it riddles your computer! Still am i f**k gonna pay for stuff!! so have to use it...
Some time ago I picked up an absolutely nasty piece of malware , the Hotsearch toolbar. ADaware, Spybot, Spyware Doctor and the likes couldn’t shift it. I checked the registry and the Internet caches in minute detail but couldn’t locate the f**ker.
Finally, I got onto a techie forum, bleepingcomputer.com. This is run by Kaspersky, the anti-virus program I use.
I was asked to download an run a scanner called HiJackThis and then to post a copy of the scan results on the forum. {BTW, you don’t need to use Kasp to get help here- just run the scanner and send them on the results.}
You may not need to go to this trouble at all.
I’ve cut and pasted the reply I got and it may help others in the same boat as I was.
There are two programs mentioned along with details on how to use them. I did as I was asked and I got rid of Hotsearch at the first attempt.
Obviously, if you got rid of your nasty stuff you needn’t send on the results of the SuperAntiSpyware scan to bleepingcomputer.
