Ballycran set for a golden period of dominance
Atlast it is coming true the golden period of Ballycran is beginning. They outplayed Dunloy, will beat them in the replay and give the all-ireland a real go.
There is nothing surprising about this they are a bunch of committed skilful players who just live and breath for hurling. They have the material in Ballycran , a very well organised youth policy from Paddy Dorrian at the early stages right up to Dermot O'Prey and the rest.Hurling is everything to these people .
The players taking a few examples are just hurling mad Sean O Aonghuis ,Conor Woods (possibly the best hurler in Ulster and son of the great Dermot), James Coyle ( what a pedigree) ,Colm Mc MANUS , Gary Savage( need we tell anyone of him)Paddy Hughes( from the great hurling family) , his cousin Gregory , Brendan Mc Gourty and all of them i could list.It is no surprise to anyone in the Ards that these players took Casement by storm. They live for it and that is why we could be looking at a very long period of dominance.
So don't be surprised anymore the secret is out Ballycran are back better than they ever were.
So get to Casement and watch these guys they are going to put the pride back in Ulster hurling.Everyone of them are a credit to their families and their club.So go watch them and you'll see what i mean - these are warriors (manly disciplined men) who never give up and work , work, hook , block, run, and more...
BAILE CRANN ABU!!
boy youre setting yourself up for a fall
:D :D :D
What an idiot!
I'd say Ballyhale Shamrocks and Erin's Own are just shitting themselves so. Ah, sure us Munster boys would be as well burning the sticks cause we won't get a look in for years now that Ballygran have arrived. ;)

It's just a shame they didn't win
Some young Cran has crossed over from the Hoganstand methinks.
Full of the exuberance of youth but lacking in knowledge his own clubs very recent history where a lot of good young hurlers have been hit by the lure of St Johns, the village inn and the mermaid. Here's hoping that trend has stopped.
Jonathan the mask has slipped typical of jealous inward looking people who upon the success of neighbouring parishes revert to their own begrudging ways , they may subtly try to act the wise man and talk about issues.
Any of the issues this begrudger has named are nothing new to Gaa clubs defections to other clubs ( ps not on any grand scale by the way ) and drinking in named local bars ( quite insulting to Ballycran folk ) , these hurlers are a credit to themselves , their families and their clubs and for you to insuinate that is downright nasty ( possibly your lack of worldiness and youth may account for this ,a little too inward looking - get out and away a little more).
Jonathan get a grip of yourself and support your county champions but then old habits die hard but try to wish them well.
These players are on the cusp of greatness through sheer committment and drive . so get to Casement on Sunday and see for yourselves.
Baile Crann Abu
greatness?? they won the Down hurling championship and have done nothing in Ulster yet. All Gaa players who give it 100% for their club are a credit to their people. Youre just embarrassing them with posts like that
Hurling Addict?
Saw this posted on the Hoganstand Down page.
Are you seriously thinking that you will give the All Ireland a good go?
My friend I think you need to take a closer look at Dunloy before you start booking hotels in febuary. Firstly my point is that you played very well in the first game and Dunloy were dreadful. Secondly Dunloy will have learned your team and your tactics from the first game and will adjust their team and tactics accordingly.
IMO you were a suprise package to not only Down hurling but to the whole of Ulster uncluding Dunloy. I would say if you asked most of the Dunloy team to name five of your players before sunday they would have struggled were most of your lads could have picked the Dunloy team.
Im not saying that you wont beat them on sunday, but if I was you I wouldnt be mouthing off like that just yet. If you back someone into a corner for long enough the only way they are going to come out is fighting and that is what I expect from Dunloy this sunday, so I hope you are prepared.
They might need to be warriors
It just sounds like some young lad on a piss take if you ask me.......
U havent even mentioned the Lynchs in ur wee rant there sunny jim. U think once you beat Dunloy it is u in an all-ireland series. Fair play to unes for winning down and all, but do you not rememeber bout 2 months ago when unes visited Kevin Lynch park, with a virtually full strength side?????

No begrudgery or jealousy here young fella, just words of caution as one swallow never made a summer and don't get carried away with yourselves just yet.
Hurling Addict get back onto the Hogan Stand website where you belong, this is site is for sensible hurling discussion not PR and sh*t stirring. As someone who had the pleasure of coaching some of the Ballycran lads I don't think they will thank you for posting that type of cr*p on any website.
Without doubt Ballycran were full value for their victory in Down and could have grabbed victory last week in Casement but this Sunday IMO is an even bigger test.Even though they shouldn't have given their experience I think that Dunloy under estimated Ballycran and were almost caught on the hop, wee James Coyle had a great game but will he get the same freedom on Sunday I doubt it.
By the way I also agree with Owenbeg, don't rule out the Lynch's mightn't have the skills of the Crans or Dunloy but showed last year against Cushendall they can match the best on their day and will feel this is a great chance for them to grab an Ulster victory.
Best of luck to Ballycran on Sunday but Hurling Addict you are only turning people off your club with the rubbish you posted.
Ps congrats to Liatriom on their victory last week and best of luck to Bredagh but I see Setanta winning that particular game
Jonathan oh the bregrudger you were the one mentioning local bars etc so if you have nothing positive to say about this great team say nothing and go back to what you do best whatever it is!!
Pull hard I don't where you came from maybe you did a lot of courses in coaches but really how many games have you played in your life ?( for the crack from aged 12 onwards what 4 a year or a few on your holidays get a grip), Johnny come lately! You coached the Ballycran lads (you i am sure are the reason why they hurled so well on Sunday past) and I'm sure you were headhunted for that role!!
Now you sunshine go back to Hoganstand yourself and when someone decides to praise his club and let the wider public now about them don't Johny come lately try to decide what should or should not be written.
But on a positive note pull hard i admire your admiration of the underdog clubs and I'm sure now that you are a "hurling prophet" good luck and keep pulling hard.
But onto the match let all hurling folk get to Casement and watch Ballycran put the pride back in Ulster hurling!

Go easy on the young lad...were youse never teenagers yourself ? What with the wet dreams, acne, and body odour it's not easy sure it's not son?
Great team? One Down SHC in 12 years :-\.
He'd be enough to put you off Ballycran if I didn't know some of the great hurling men in that parish.

Speaking of Ballycran men reminds me of a story i heard, Mick Braniff was in the bar at the Kilmacud Sevens talking to a few southern lads about hurling and the next thing the boul Sambo arrived on the scene and was stuck in the middle of it for a bit of back slapping, he said to the southerners in a jovial matey tone, arm round Mick Braniff at the time,"oh dont talk to me about Mick Braniff, you couldnt get hurling with him pulling and slapping", Mick retorted with "you should never have been allowed to hurl again after what you did in Casement against Ballycastle"........Sambo exited the scene sharpish

Dunloy too strong for Ballycran
Dunloy's Gregory O'Kane
Gregory O'Kane hit eight points for Dunloy at Casement Park
Dunloy progressed to next Sunday's AIB Ulster Club Hurling final against Kevin Lynchs by beating Ballycran 1-19 to 1-12 in Sunday's semi-final replay.
The Antrim side led 1-10 to 0-7 at half-time - helped by Liam Richmond's goal midway through the first half.
Richmond notched 1-5 for Dunloy while Gregory O'Kane hit eight points and sub Conor Cunning notched four scores.
James Coyle's 53rd-minute goal reduced Dunloy's lead to six points but the Antrim side had already done enough.

No sign of the young fella yet?
He's maybe got the day off school after a few pints in JG's..
;) ;) ;) ;)
Popped into into renshaws there for lunch - fine cuisine indeed. There was a large contingent of Ballycran ones in drinking away, since half 8 this mornin apparently!
I was up in Casement today and am still really gutted we left it behind the first day in the drawn game against Dunloy in the real final. The second day the puck out mix up sealed our fate!
We know we are the best club in Ulster and I stand by the assertion that we are set to dominate for the coming years.Dunloy know that and the real hurling people do.
But from all in the Ballycran area best wishes and well done to Dunloy!!
Baile Crainn Abu.
I think the GPA should be ashamed of themselves they are undermining everything the GAA stands for. What they are asking for is Pay for |Play dressed up in fancy clothes.
They are an elitist Organisation who are only concerned with themselves and I firmly believe its a case of a few leading the many.
Don't get me wrong i totally agree with players being treated well and looked after if they get injured but they are always looking for more and more.
Currently every season inter-county players in Derry get:
2 pairs of boots
2 full kits a season,
2 full sets of training gear. (1 wet and 1 normal)
1 rain jacket
1 zip up top
1 jumper
2 polo shirts
1 tracksuit
Home training Equipment
Free access to state of the art gym
All the above are official Derry gear from O neills with emblems and crests and this is only the gear I KNOW FOR CERTAIN they get!
Also they have access to a top class physio, team doctor dietician and heart screening facilities.
they receive meals after ALL games and on the way to away games
they get fed after every training
and they also get VERY GOOD rebates on their mileage expenses.
Again these are jut the things i KNOW FOR CERTAIN!!
for each national league game they receive 4 passes each allowing friends and family to gain admission to the games for FREE and the passes can be used for both hurling and football even if only involved in one code.
They receive at least 2 and sometimes more FREE tickets for ALL championship matches they are involved in
They receive 2 good tickets for the all Ireland final in their code (hurling or football) for FREE
Before the club championship begins they receive a pass allowing them to gain FREE entry to ALL championship matches within the county in EITHER code at ANY level
The above list was given to me when I asked a PRESENT COUNTY PLAYER from our club about conditions at inter-county level.
I don't think anyone would begrudge them these things as the gear and medical farcicalities are a MUST and so are the mileage expenses and the meals.
The other stuff are added perks and again I would say Just right they are training very hard and giving a big commitment to Our County.
Looking at the list I would say our county players are fairly well looked after wouldn't you? And this is just the example of our county alot of other counties like Armagh and Tyrone get even more gear and perks which again is fair enough.
But to ask for money and to make out that they are so hard done by and listening to some of their leaders you'd think some were hardly fit to feed themselves and on the way to financial ruin is an absolute myth and border line lie!! Nobodies making them play!!!
What ever happened to being proud to play for your county and pride in the jersey? That used to be enough to make people play for their counties.
Has Pride and honour fallen of the radar of the GPA in their obsession with self-worth and self-gain.
If pride in the jersey and being honoured to represent your County plus the list i have supplied aren't enough to make individuals play for OUR county teams do we really want them to? The type of character who would undermine the very fabric of our great organisation to line his own pockets.
I was also informed by the County player from my own Club that most county players don't want to strike but are being openly pressurised to do so. Is this Democracy?
Its also evident the GPA are so far removed from the grassroots GAA and the supporters that they haven't noticed that the vast majority are strongly against it, but why would they listen to us mere mortals?
Down Manager Ross Carr has the right idea:
If these prima donnas strike and refuse to play Each County should find a panel of players who will represent their counties for pride honour and the other perks i listed. There would be a stampede to trials and it would totally negate the strike and render their actions futile and meaningless.
We cannot let the elitist few hold the rest of us to ransom while they try to gain financially for doing what most TRUE Gaels consider an Honour and a privilege – PLAY FOR YOUR COUNTY

I agree100% hardstation.
