Title: Is Jimmy McGuinness?
Post by: moonster on May 10, 2026, 07:08:11 PM
Martin McHugh one famously referred to Pooch Cooper as one trick pony.

Is Jim McGuinness a one trick pony as manager? Won AI in 2012 with Rory Gallagher beside.

Found out in 2014 and last year final when Kerry played him at his own game. Down found him out again two weeks ago.

Pat Spillane  called him out on it last week.

There's already a dedicated Jimmy thread, sadly.

Winning the all Ireland isn't a bad trick.

Five Ulster titles, one AI title, two AI runner's up and one Ulster runner's up in his six completed seasons (also a league title this year).

If he IS a one trick pony, it's a damn fine trick!

Rory Gallagher had his chance with Donegal. He won nothing, albeit he was unlucky in 2016 with Tyrone's late, late wonder scores (Sean Cavanagh's is still one of the best points I've ever seen under the circumstances).
