He's the type of boy who would start a thread like this right before he moves up a bracket.

We opened our pitch many years ago and we had that Great Kerry team up to play Antrim, Jack O'Shea Spillane and the rest, was a golden era team..

From football perspective that was a great day at the club to have them up, the night before and for the celebrations afterwards

Antrim drew with Kerry that day  ;D

51...Unreal where the years have went. Don't know when I first went on here but it was prob about 20-25 years ago. When I was young and the Mucksavage thread was at it's peak I couldn't get any work done for laughing after reading all the lies but they were good honest lies

Joined here in 2001. Gaelic games was at an exciting stage. Croke Park was a fresh stadium everybody wanted to go to. The back door in Gaelic was brought in. Counties like Westmeath, Sligo and Fermanagh could dream of big days.

On this forum there were some serious good contributors back in the day.

Lads with serious knowledge and passion of Gaelic football.

This was the place to go to for Match previews and match reviews.

Lads on here were attending games, knew the players from club level and seen tactics.
You realised the Colm O'Rourkes, Spillnes, Brolly's et al writing in Sunday Papers were bluffers running with the herd narrative or against it just to be controversial.

The hurling side of this forum never took off.

The Board is getting older and there is no feed of young people to keep the average age down.

GAA board is  clearly social media for  the 35+ Year olds  , without the selfies and the  photos of their  dinners/pints

Sure youngsters have to be noticed, so  being a member of a mostly anonymous forum  would be alien to them

Forums will have their day again.

Reddit's resurgence is evidence of this.

Uncontrolled, unfiltered, non-sequitur conversation - like on Facebook and Twitter - is initially brilliant and refreshing. But it is ultimately shallow, for it is impossible to have a serious or elongated conversation on those platforms.

There's a legion of young Irish men who would love to while away their days chatting GAA shit on the internet.

They just don't yet know that this opportunity exists.

Though not social media, I love taking a pic of a good dinner or stout and posting into the family WhatsApp group and love seeing others do the same.🤤

Wouldn't be big on grown men wearing full tracksuits or having moustaches (saves posting on the other group) but everything else is 100% fine

This site has been part of my usual online routine for around 20 years.
Used to be a great place to go on a Friday night to get the Down results.

It beat Aertel 592 on a Sunday evening.

Back in the noughties after a big championship game you could come home that night and have 20 pages to trawl through.

Some memorable threads:
AZ Offaly's account of Ferbane GAA and Mucksavage thread spring to mind. Serious nostalgia.

But it's great that we're still here, albeit some in different guises but sure so what.

My first decade or so was a battle with Fearon for the craic. We even were approached by RTE (I think it was) to do something on the 2003 final.
