Speaking personally, I've no issue with honest political disagreement. Reasonable, informed people can respectfully and honestly disagree on all kinds of issues, be it something like economic policy or abortion or how best to deal with the reality of climate change. Its the basis of a healthy democracy.

Of course it's not true but it's a myth put forward by the hard right who seem to be masters at misinformation on everything for the last few years. It's caused society to be in a dangerous place with crazy events happening like Brexit, Trump getting elected and all the misinformation about vaccines costing lives all around the world.

One of the myths the right tell themselves is that they are the real-world, cold-hard-fact-based analysts pursuing truth and progress, while liberals are completely ruled by emotion and wishful pie-in-the-sky thinking.
All the while their movement is now completely motivated and defined by fact-free perception of their own persecution and grievance and susceptible to demogogues preaching fear of the other, whether its immigrants, muslims, gay people, scientists or simply educated professionals, i.e. elites, who supposedly look down on them. And then, in the case of the US, they have channeled all of that through and latched on to a narcissistic, self-aggrandizing, amoral, corrupt, wannabe dictator who cares little for them or their causes beyond their usefulness to him personally and demands that their loyalty be to him, personally, first and foremost, at the expense of everything else, no matter how much they have to suspend honest disbelief.

They know exactly what they're doing and they have an innate ability to play to the gallery. The fact that they are intelligent people using others for self promotion just makes them more odious. Their sole metric for success is money and power.
While I agree Nolan possesses the aforementioned attributes, it's his producers that should take most of the blame. I never really listened to or watched his programmes but in the last couple of years have actively avoided them, I have heard it said his 5live persona is nothing like his Radio/BBC Ulster one.
Does Nolan annoy both sides in equal measure?
