It doesn't offend me at all but it's ridiculously petty. I think they have a guideline for naming Derry.
Surely the bigger story is Nelson's commitment towards it, though?

How does this sit with Croke Park in terms of ownership etc etc
I'd be fairly sure that it's just been lifted from Nelson's press release.

I enjoyed the BBC Radio Ulster news a couple of weeks ago when the 10 o'clock bulletin reported that Donal McKeown had been appointed the new Catholic Bishop of Londonderry. By the 11 o'clock bulletin he was the new Bishop of Derry

All to do with how it's structured. Lavey are the same they have a multi purpose facility at their club under the banner "Termoneeny Community Group". If it's not explicitly owned by the GAA then there can be no issue with using the centre for whatever you want really.
Newton Emerson has a very simple solution to the naming issue.
The area inside the walls should be called Londonderry.
The rest of the city and the county should be called Derry.
A wonderful comprise that respects the history.

I don't know if Newton Emerson first came up with that walled city = Londonderry but it seems a reasonable idea and they should get on with it.

It was BBC editorial policy 15 years ago when I worked there, that the first mention of the city in a story would use Londonderry, then use Derry thereafter.
You might not agree with it, but then again someone else might not agree if it was the other way around. So compromise.

i thought that was the case...we have done something similar ourselves..
I believe Galbally Pearses in Tyrone are the same? It's basically a community centre, and their pitch is adjoining.
