Title: Countries where Soccer is not the National Sport.
Post by: Asal Mor on July 24, 2013, 04:54:40 PM
According to this quiz there are 34 countries in the world where soccer is not the most popular national sport. I was able to guess 18 of them in 7 minutes. That doesn't sound that good until you see how obscure some of the answers are. Anyway, if anyone (like me) has too much time on their hands give it a try.

Using google or what ever other "pretend to know it" server is not PC. Try to use the ole grey matter if you think it matters

Killed me to pull 19 out - a lot of typing in name after name
would struggle to name 60% of all the countries in the world I'd say.....

17 a bit pissed off it didn't accept New Guinea but there you go.

I should have got a couple of the European ones and one other rugby one but the rest I hadn't a hope.

Yeah I'd have thought rugby was more popular than soccer in Wales but maybe the numbers playing soccer are higher.

Papua New Guinea?

Can't get on it in work. Good few Eastern European ones would be basketball I imagine. Lot of Baseball and cricket in Latin America and the Caribbean, good few rugby ones too.

Is Wales a country or a principality?

Spoiler alert! ;)

It seems to be just nation states and soccer would be a far bigger spectator sport in South Africa than rugby or cricket. As seanie notes, I entered the West Indies a few times before I got the message.

Yeah, did the same (although didnt realise Curtly is from there - I could name a good chunck of WI cricketers, but the island they're from never stuck with me)

Was pretty happy how I did with 23/34, albeit 2 of them were lucky as I was guessing for ice hockey and they popped up in the basketball column. I missed two of the WI islands and one of the baseball countries I was annoyed at forgetting, but would never have got any of the others.

The United Kingdom is the name of that country. Wales isn't recognised as a country, no more than NI, Engand or Scotland.

All I did was start from Australia and then go through the other countries. It is pointless thinking about European countries where there is a big football following. On top of that I study sports.

I got 23/34, but never thought of those mainland latin American countries and slowed down trying to figure remember which of those Carribbean Islands were dependencies and which were independent.

From the same site. Can you name the 23 players who have scored more than 100 goals in the Premiership? I got 16 - not bad, but I really should do something more productive with my time.

19, should have been 20. I spelled Philippines with one 'l' instead of two so it didn't accept it.
