I thought the Queen was totally disinterested last night, quite grumpy in fact. Unlike the smiles and beaming face that may be seen at Royal Ascott. Seemed like she did not want to be there. Remember her looking at her nials as the British Team entered the arena at the Olympics.

From my perspective as someone who works with people who have varying disabilities,I love the Paralympics.We are celebrating the beauty of humanity and diversity which was displayed throughout the Opening Ceremony which was fantastic especially at the end with the song "I am what I am" which just summed up the ethos of the Paralympics.This will be filled with excellence throughout especially from Team Ireland:)

Without a doubt. I heard he's just one second slower than Bolt and was very close to the regular Olympic qualifying time. Granted one second in sprinting can be loads but still. Hugely impressive.

Even closer than that, it was 0.04 seconds. He made the qualifying time earlier in the season but that time had to be binned as the wind was too strong. Some going. Fair play on the gold and the WR.

I think it's Tyson Gaye is the training partner.
Smith has went 10:2x. He competed in the last worlds and made the semis. He went Olympic standard but it was wind assisted so did 't count.
Pistorius 2nd in 200 meters. Now didn't see that coming as winning time was slower than Oscar's qualifying time of last night. Oscar not happy but is this what the sport needs?
There seems to be some controversy over the blades they use now. I'm not sure but from what I can gauge Pistorius seems to have said that the guy who won has better blades.
This is controversial as I think he got into the "able bodied" olympics based on the fact that blades don't make a difference(or make negligible difference)

Matthew Pinsent has said the same on twitter - basically that he needs to make up his mind if blades are performance enhancing or not and cant have it both ways.
It has to have a major bearing. In running one of the major things is that you push of using your calf muscles and he basically has a choice of calf muscles.
Coverage of Irish Paralympians very disappointing to be honest
The Blade Runner is a sore loser and I was thinking the same about him complaining about the other fellas blades when apparently they didn't give him an advantage when he was trying to get into the regular Olympics. But you only have to look at Richard Whiteheads win to see that the blades are adding something that can't be gained naturally, he came from way back in the pack and blew everyone away in the straight. The speed at which he covered that last 60 or 70 metres was unreal and seemed to be as a result of the spring gained from his blades. On top of that, it seems unfair on one leg amputees racing against two leg amputees.

I just heard on the radio that Jason Smyth is a mormon. Seems strange for a lad from Derry.
Did he convert when he went over to the States, or is from a mormon family?

JASON SMYTH's fiancée Elise Jordan has been a constant presence beside him at the Paralympic Games when time has allowed him away from his training.
A 25-year-old American girl with blonde hair and a killer smile, she has been revelling in the attention that Smyth has received since winning the Paralympic T13 Olympic 100 metres title on Saturday night. The couple were not an item when he won double gold in Beijing. They posed for photographs and kissed when Smyth was presented with a memento by the chief executive of Paralympics Ireland Liam Harbison on Monday afternoon.
They are due to be married on December 29th in the world-famous Salt Lake Temple in Utah, the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints (LDS), better known as the Mormons.
The couple met when Brother Smyth, as he is known among the faithful, was visiting an uncle in Utah where Mormons are in a majority. His uncle introduced him to Jordan who attended the same church in Utah and the couple have been dating for two years. Jordan said the couple's faith was a "huge part of who we are and what we believe. Joining in that faith gives us guidance and gives him a lot of help with his athletics".
Smyth, from Eglinton, Co Derry, has cited his religion as something that has helped him and that fate as well as faith has played its part in his career.
Smyth does not wear his faith on his sleeve in the same way as Katie Taylor and is much less vocal about it in public, but it is central to his identity and his worldview. He has cited it as a huge part of his identity which has sustained him and helped him deal with the homesickness which comes with having to train in Florida. Because of his visual impairment he has been unable to complete the "mission", the two years practising Mormons are expected to devote to missionary duties, but he sees his success as an athlete as his mission.
In an interview with a Mormon website last week, he declared "my faith is probably the biggest thing that motivates me. I know I have been given a talent, a talent in which I have to increase to the maximum but one in which I can do much good throughout the world in being an example and making people more aware of the gospel," he told the Church Times.
Smyth had the crushing disappointment of missing out on a place in the Olympics by 0.04 seconds, but he believes that it is part of God's providence. He also suffered disappointment when missing out on the Commonwealth Games in 2010 through injury, but instead went to Utah and met his now fiancée.
There are about 8,000 Mormons in Ireland – 3,000 in the Republic and 5,000 in the North – and they are intensely proud of Smyth. The LDS church is under intense scrutiny in the US because its most famous believer Mitt Romney could be the next president. Mormons are famously clean-living, eschewing not just alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs, but even tea and coffee.
LDS spokesman Eamonn Sheridan said he is "as sure as I can be" that Smyth keeps faithfully to their health law known as "The Word of Wisdom".
"Like all young Olympians, Jason would be a wonderful example of the results of living a clean lifestyle," he said. "Would that all young people would follow his example. Who knows what they could achieve. We're rightly proud of the fact the he's Irish and of his achievements."
Smyth competes again in the 200m T13 on Friday.
Athlone Town Council has defended its decision to remove signs supporting the town's Paralympic athletes because the posters were put up without permission. The signs were removed under the Litter Act.
Cllr Paul Hogan was in the Olympic Park in London when he heard his posters in support of world champion hand-cyclist Mark Rohan were taken away, a move the councillor described as disgraceful and heavy-handed.
"Those signs would have been removed by next week and they were genuinely in support of and proud of Mark Rohan and all his achievements to date," he said.

Really really enjoyed the Paralympics, as already said pity the BBC diddnt cover it as the ads done my head in. other than the ads C4 diddnt do a bad job at covering it, great at explaining the different categories of disabilities and how it impacts on the athlete. all in all well done to them

The coverage was great and explainations very helpful. Wasn't too upset by the ads. Compared it to Michael Johnson wittering on about what it was like in his Career. At least the ads eventually finished.
Enjoy The Last Leg as well after the coverage. Could lose the "Is it alright?" section. At the end people seemed to be going for shock questions rather than looking for answers.
Hope the do similar for Rio 2016 so we'll see if people will tune in for Paralympics

I would say someone will take matrers into their own hands regarding the gold PO box.
I believe the LDS church went to great lengths to "take back" the term mormon, and it is no longer considered offensive.
I have to say that on an individual basis, every mormon I know really is a shining example of goodness and decency. With the exception of keeping their wives home while they go to work as pretty much a standard (although most of the mormons I know are pretty well off, so maybe they can afford that lifestyle). You just need to tell them up front that you aren't interested in receiving the book, nor an invitation to any services.

I dont believe they find it an insult\offensive - they just dont use it officially in preferring the full name or "the church".
The mormons I know are happy to use the term.
