Title: What chores do you do at home?
Post by: Milltown Row2 on June 14, 2011, 08:53:18 AM
On the back of the other thread about what ya get up to when the wife is out I was wondering do you pull your weight around the house?

For example:

Hoover the house

Make the dinner

Cut the grass

In charge of the bills

Ironing

DIY around the house

Cleaning the bathroom

Putting a wash on and hanging it out to dry

Making the lunches

I cook, do a bit of cleaning and tidying, manage the kids as necessary and mind the bills.
I don't generally iron and there is very little DIY .

I am the Chief Controller of the Remote Controls in our house  8)

The missus always gets me to put the sheet on the mattresses of the beds cos they are a bit on the heavy side for her, she used to help prior to babies but now she thinks its a better idea for me to bust myself doing it on my own taking twice the time  :o

The Mrs washes the dishes, I dry them, when the dishwasher is full and hasnt been switched on  :-\

Wife washes, I towel her down....  ;)

No real set rule on who does what in our house. We both do whatever needs done.
I enjoy working outside more and working in the garden and I do all the DIY and touch ups about the house because I enjoy that kind of thing.
My wife is a stay at home mother and takes care two kids, all the washing, cleaning and cooking during the week. I pitch in with the cleaning at the weekend.

From talking to some friends there would seem to be a growing trend in people these days to not do a whole pile of housework. A lot of women don't want to clean and either the men do everything or they hire a cleaner to come in regularly.

More importantly there is a growing trend of women who can't/won't cook. Thankfully I take care of most of the cooking, a fair bit of cleaning and laundry. Herself takes care of the dishes and general tidying. She reminds me to pay the bills too.

She does the woman's work and I do the man's work. Suits everyone, except that there is ten times more woman work.

Spare a thought for us that need to do both!

I got a cleaner, regular window cleaner, and paved the back garden over though so I guess all I do really is take out the bins, do my own laundry and do general tidying in between cleaner visits.  Gonna try to get the cleaner to do some ironing too.
I often work long hours and am away a lot during the week (writing this from a hotel room in Chicago) so the last thing I want to do when I get home is deep-clean the house.
