Right lads and lasssies, here are the rules and regulations as we agreed on over on the Horse Racing thread a few weeks back:
-> Daily mythical bank of €100 to bet - so €400 over the four days
-> One selection per race - either win single or e/w (e/w = your stake X2, e.g. €10 e/w is €20 overall), no multiples, doubles, patents, lucky 15s etc.
-> Participants must select one horse in each race
-> Participants who exceed their €100 bank on an individual day are disqualified
-> Participants can only use their €100 bank on the one day - e.g. no carry over of €20 to Wednesday if you've only bet €80 on Tuesday
-> Only the official SP as published in the Racing Post will be used
-> Only the offiicial result will be used in the case of a stewards enquiry and ammended result - no double result as paid out by most bookmakers (Dead heat pays out half your stake)
-> Place terms: 1/4 the odds in all races - 4 places in races of 16 runners or more, 3 places in races with under 16 runners
-> Winner will be the person who generates the most € profit at the end of the four days - in the event that no one makes a profit, the person with the least loss over the four days will be deemed the winner.
Example of an entry for the Tuesday of last year's festival:
1:30 - Go Native €10 win
2:05 - Forpadydeplasterer €20 win
2:40 - Wichita Lineman €10 win
3:20 - Punjabi €5 e/w
4:00 - Garde Champetre €20 win
4:40 - Quevega €30 win
All selections before the off time of the first race each day please. Probably be Saturday or Sunday week before I have the results up given that'll I'll only be flying home late Friday night.
If anyone spots any issues or problems with the format then raise them before Monday.
what rate you giving for sterling?
only kidding... good work, looking forward to it !
is there a minimum bet per race?
Looking forward to the challenge!
Thanks DH for taking the time out.
Have to have a go at this.
Fair play DH. I'll give it a go (provided I can make it to a computer next week)
Grand job DH. Can you post your selections the nights before the racedays?
Is it necessary to tip in each race or are we allowed put for example all 100 euro on Dunguib on the Tuesday and leave it at that??
is there a minimum...
or could you put 5 £1 wins on and then a £95 win on one?
Thanks a million for running this DH. If you want me to give youa hand with totting up results before you get back then give me a shout by PM.
One question, if any race starts with less than 8 runners, will there only be 2 places e/w? (don't mean to be awkward but better to sort these things out at the start)
I think we'll set minimum bet of €1 or 50c e/w in case someone wants to lump €95 on Dunguib and spread the €5 over the other five races. Remember though, the winner is determined by the most profit so lumping on the four odds-on shots might not be the best strategy - your €95 stake won't count in the standings.
Not that this will happen but just to cover ourselves:
Each way terms in races with 5-7 runners -> 1/4 odds two places
4 runners or less -> win only
Fair Play to you. Looking at your example bet for first day last year, What a docket that would have been :D
Good man. I'll be there for duration too so going to stick the lot up now - if any NRs switch me to favourite

Non-Runner for the Arkle. Still all guns blazing for the RSA.
You nearly gave me a heart-attack.
Might be worth opening a thread now for each day and leave this thread for general discussion.
I'm sure the non-racing fans won't mind the extra threads for the couple of days that's in it and it may leave the totting-up a bit easier.

Wouldn't we? >:(
;)
Fair play DH, looking forward to this, will be gutted if at the end of the week I have a load of 'virtual' cash and feck all from my real punting!
Because a lot of people are putting selections up already and given the likeliehood of NRs I think we'll stipulate that if your horse is a non-runner and you haven't selected a reserve then your stake goes on the SP favourite. If there's joint favourites then the stake is divided accordingly.
The only way to handle it DH good man. Looking forward to the cheltenham butterflies on tuesday. ;)
Can you just put up your selections, with your selection then your reserve choice in brackets beside it for every race?

Yep. Just put that stipulation in for those who have already posted their selections without reserves.
Here are the final totals for the tipping challenge. Remember it is the profit (or loss in most cases!) from the original €400 that determines finishing order.
Incredible performance from Homer who wins easy on the bridle.
Winsamsoon ran a very respectable race in second but never looked like troubling the winner.
AZOffaly plugged on for third.

Lucky it was make believe.
It wasn't really.
Good man Homer.
Unfortunately it was far too close to reality. :(
Big thanks to Donnelly's Hollow and TacadoirArdMhacha for their effort.
Just 358 days to Cheltenham 2011
Well done to DH and TAM, if only my losses for the week were as low as on this thread I would be a lot happier!
The only day I had proper wins was when I was in the pub watching the football and forgot all about the horsies. I made money on here the only day I didn't back in reality! Shocking only two people in profit! Well done DH and TAM on a great job, made the comp a little more interesting!
Yep...big thanks to DH and TAM for all the work last week.
Good stuff lads provided an extra interest over the festival. Just wished i had stuck to my choices on here ,aybe a would have came away with my trousers lol
Now if that was a division three table I'd be (just about) ahead of Cavan and Offaly.
Fair play to Donnelly and Tracadoir for the work put in.
Thankfully in the real world I was the few quid the right side of it, even if I did give half of it back on Friday!
Well done to Homer, much improved on 2009. When all around them are losing their shirt the Cavan man is quids in :D
well done winners, my late spurt was not enough to catch the long time leaders, left too much to do coming into the home straight, bit like Dunguib I suppose...if only I had just lost €140 odd quid in reality ::)
thanks DH and TAM..... was good craic.... whilst i was in the losing side it was nice to see there was a good few losers worse than me!
well done homer!
