Just read recently that this former Tyrone footballer has died. he was a very good footballer, blessed with great pace and played on Tyrone teams for a few years , before emmigrating to USA.

Great talent from what I hear. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in New York and heard some great stories.
Didn't have the privilage to see him play ever, but I was chatting to my Dad about him this morning. Said he was an unbelieveable player, the Sean Cavanagh of his day.

Seamus Donaghy represented Dromore St Dympnas,St Josephs Teacher Training College, Tyrone and Ulster with distinction. He continued his gaelic football career in U.S.A. The quiet unassuming Donaghy returned to Dromore and played with great finesse against Carrickmore in Senior Club Championship final in the late 70's.
Have a vivid memory of his goal for Tyrone against Fermanagh in Ulster Semi Final '73 soloed passed Sherry like a cheetah and blasted the ball to the Fermanagh net.
In the final, defeated Down to gain his first Ulster Senior Championship medal alongside Mc Guigan, Donnelly, King, McMahon's,Mulgrew,Taggart, McAnespie,Turbitt, Hetherington and many other Tyrone footballers.

I inadvertently put a question mark after RIP in my origianl comment. Just to let you all know the deceased was a distant relative of my own, so I have the utmost respect.
In retrospect however I now concede that the original additional comment was trite, thoughtless and inappropriate, but still relatively innocuous and in no way offensive or disrespectful of the deceased and certainly did not merit the personal abuse meted out to me by the usual suspects, which I now expect the Moderator to act upon in an appropriate fashion.

No relation.
Did he stay on in New York or did he return to Tyrone.As far as I remember he played with The Monaghan team there along with Mickey Niblock.They were similar type players ,great at carrying the ball but not the most accurate.R.I.P.
I don't know about playing football in Monaghan but he returned to play for Dromore as Croker posted above. I think he has been in NY since the late 70s?

And since this was posted, my father John Donaghey died on July 7th. He also played for Dromore in the 60s.
