Got this installed & to be honest I don't see a huge difference in it & the normal Sky+, are there any other posters that have it or even have an opinion on it or it's alleged benefits?
Do you have a HDMI cable between Sky+ box and TV? What channels are you watching in HD?
the sky boyo installed it & said there was a HDMI cable between the TV & sky box, i've been watching soccer games mostly & i do notice thae quality is slightly better but nowhere near what I was expecting.
What sort of TV do you have? You might need to change some settings on it. I changed some settings on mine and made a good difference.
Sony 50" LCD rear projector, don't get me wrong Archie it is a better quality but not what I was expecting for a tenner a month.
Not sure then. Have you seen someone else with HD to see if its any different?
Depends on what you're watching, that you get the full benefit of HD.
The Dark Knight - amazing
Doctors - what's the difference
I've asked numerous friends if they have it & have yet to find someone who has, starting to feel like i've been screwed :(
Are you watching the HD channels or just the normal channels?
Jasus Archie give me a bit of cred ;D
Yeah i'm watching the HD channels.
The aul fella is going to cancel sky and get freesat in with the new tv hes getting. Is there any free hd channels on free sat? I got myself a new 32 inch tv and the difference with the playstation and watching dvds is unreal.

I normally would Archie but I really struggle with the Pakistan accent.
We got it when we got Sky last Summer. Its slightly better but no way is it worth the extra money in my view. Tied into a 12 month contract though now!

Just the BBC. HD is only available through ITV London, but I've yet to get it to work. Channel 4 HD isn't available via Freesat.
I can notice a difference in the football games when they are HD but i dont think i would be willing to pay 120 quid a year for SkyHD

How many channels do you get with the freesat. ripping my da is getting rid of sky but i can hardly get near the main tv to get the use out of sky anyway.

Don't think I would buy this. I have a Blu Ray player and would be a HD advocate, but only for the right content.
e.g. One day Transformers was on sky movies. I flicked back and forward between the Blu Ray and the Sky Movies version at the part where a load of robots are fighting on the streets of Mission City at the end. On the sky one I could barely tell one robot from the other bar the coloured bits. On the Blu Ray one I could.
I've been very careful about what I've bought in Blu Ray. Dark Knight, Star Trek, District 9, etc. But I would never buy The Godfather or something like that because I would get little benefit Over DVD.
I look at sky HD in the same way... All I really watch on TV is the odd show that I get hooked on (the wire) or sport. So I don't see the need for it.

Same here.
I'll upgrade to HD when Sky decide to give it away for free, £10 a month is a rip off with very little improvement to the naked eye. Yes, it is better, but only slightly to the eye. I see they are advertising their election night coverage is in HD....a real sales booster, not.
Blu-ray DVD's will do me fine for now.

Discovery HD and History HD are some of the channels which you can see the benefit of HD. The BBC don't broadcast in full HD and I presume ITVis the same.

From what I remember the ordinary quality is not great with this tv so you should notice a big enough difference with HD.
Either you are not impressed with the difference or you are not seeing the best it can be - your HD feed is not good quality or possibly your tv is not set up properly re your picture settings.
Personally couldn't be bothered with HD yet.
Got it installed yesterday and notice a good boost in quality of SD broadcast. Level of detail is v good on HD. Never watched blue ray so can't compare it to that.
I was toying with the idea of getting it a few months back but didn't think it warranted the 120 a year so put it to the back of my head. Then though and behold Sky phone me out of the blue and offered free box with free installation as well as a free HD subscription for 12mths. So I'd have to say that I'm v happy with it for what it cost. :-D

Screw you. I can get all the broadband access I need at your house!
At least if I had it I'd actually download stuff with it. Unlike you ;)
did you get the upgraded software . it seems to be a low slower in changing channels than eirher the old sky + hd or the regular sky + . I hav both so the feed seems to be ok
The problem I have with Sky HD is that because of bandwidth issues its only available in 1080i which isnt true HD, consequently I am requiring either my av receiver or tv to upscale. That said I do like the fact that there is a big audio improvement on most HD shows, provided you connect to your sky box using an optical cable and can therefore get Dolby Digital.

ITV HD wasn't officially available on Sky+ HD until recently. Once it was official, they were able to block it.
ITV HD is available in the north, you just have to tune the frequency in yourself. Problem is that you can only watch the channel in real time and also you cannot record or view the listings for whats on currently or whats on next. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Channel Islands can not receive ITV1 HD because the regional broadcaster decided not to take up ITV's HD offering.
As for quality of Sky HD, there is some difference in the quality but this is dependent on your TV. I have saw Sky HD on a normal 42 Inch HD Ready Plasma (720) and the quality is nothing special, whereas on my 42 Inch Full HD Plasma (1080p) the quality is unreal.

You think? Most (if not all) new TV's are HD these days, so it won't be long before a critical mass is reached where it won't make sense not to make programmes in HD. 3D, on the other hand . . . doesn't it require those glasses? It's enough of a pain trying to find the remote without now having to find a piece of card that is a perfect fit with the side of the sofa
Im sure eventually all tvs will be 3D ready and then it will be something else, holographic tv!

As part of Japan bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they will show all games will be shown holographically in each of the nations taking part.
Too soon for holographic TVs, but they will be able to display the games on soccer pitches, as if they are watching the game live.

What improvements are there on this years one? Hard job picking a good one, especially when you know that there will be new super dooper ones out within a few months.
It's simple
Either you buy this year's (Panasonic, etc) model or you keep waiting for the next year's (Panasonic etc) model.

ITV HD isn't listed for me.
Just cancelled my Sky subscription and it was difficult. The Sky person wanted to interrogate me as to why I was giving up. (It costs too much and I am going to freesat). I didn't tell him and said that I just wanted to cancel. At one stage he put the phone down on me, I can only suppose because of my reluctance to be quizzed. He called me back and then proceeded to facilitate my request. I found Sky's attitude bordering on aggressive and rude.
John should played abit with it, they normally proceed to give things half time and in some case free for 3 months with some hard sells
Wildweasel thought about that but I was paying £54 a month and watching the news and Big Bang Theory. I'm going with Freesat and movies vis the Internet. it's les bills I'm after.
I cancelled SKY last March - havent missed it atall. Then a bloke form SKY rang me on friday evening asking me to come back- heres the deal :
New SKY + HD wireless box & Full sky package inc sports, movies etc etc FREE for 6 months - after that €27.00/month for the basic package which is what I had before cancellation. Monthly cost for 12 months = €13.50.
Phone & broadband works out at €23.75 per month for 12 months including the introductory discounts.
Currently paying Vodafone €35/month for home phone & broadband (who incedintally called me early last week looking for me to sign up for an 18 month contract!!!!)
He's calling back tomorrow to see if I'm still interested - looks like a no brainer as basically I'll not be paying much more than I'm currently paying and I'll have the full sky package free for the next 6 month!!
Going to try and squeeze a new dish out of him as well as the current one is a bit shitty!!
Got the same offer after cancelling it a few months ago. Snapped it up. No contract so no worries.
To be honest, I seriously missed Sky when we got rid of it and was going to sign back up for the NFL season anyways.

I had BT Internet, think it was £17.99 a month and £11.99 line rental. Haggled between them and sky last year and sky gave me the internet for £7 a month with 6 months free line rental, with it going up to £3 after the 6 months. Noticed that the line rental jumped the other day to £14 as I was with them a year so rang up and told them I wanted the £7 internet and £3 line rental deal as I was happy enough with that and the best he could do was £7 internet and £7 line rental for 6 months, with line rental up to £14 after 6 months. I cancelled, will probably get a call at some stage but rarely used the internet at home apart from facebook (which I can use my phone for) so really don't need it.
