I am sure you have all heard or read about this tragic story. Certainly one of the most heart breaking stories I have ever heard. May he rest in peace and may God look down on his family. Not quite sure what else can be said.

Condolences to his family and teammates. RIP
Remember him playing for Wicklow back in the late 90s, decent player. So sad to see him taken away so young :(
Shocking news. RIP.
Terrible altogether
Magpie Seanie made this tribute on the Sligo v Galway thread hope he doesnt mind me reposting..
The tragic news came to us yesterday that our good friend and former playing colleague in Coolera/Strandhill, Ciarán Shannon, had been killed in a car accident in his native Wicklow. As well as being a thorough gentleman, Ciarán was an excellent servant to both Coolera/Strandhill and Sligo throughout his time in the county. Its all the more poignant that we play Galway today as it was against them that he played so well in 1995 (draw and replay) and possibly he played in 1996 as well agaist the same opposition. I extent my deepest sympathy to his family. RIP.
Just seen pictures from last night, very sad, over 1000 mourners, guard fo honour by both Wickow and Sligo clubs. My heart goes out to his family, leaving behind a Wife and 3 kids who survived the accident. Unimagineable nightmare. RIP.
Terrible news - RIP
Very sad news - RIP
echo all the above -RIP.
Condolences to his family, friends and all at Coolera Strandhill GAA club.
I remember him playing a few storming matches for Sligo in the early 90's including a man of the match performance against Galway in the Connaught Championship. RIP

Thanks Mano.
As Gab Hurl has said Ciarán was really a great lad. It's just wrong.
Sad news. The GAA 'family' has had a rough touch the past couple of weeks with the American crash as well. RIP.

My heart breaks for the lovely family he left behind, they will lose out on so much. My thoughts and prayers will be with the family and me the poor man himself rest in peace.
By the sounds of it the GAA has lost a wonderful man as well and I also am thinking of the friends and team mates that are gutted as well.
There's an event in the meory of Ciaran happening here later this month

Its still hard to believe.
That photo would break your heart.
Large crowd out for the event last Friday night - a nice sum was raised for the kids
We were in Annacurra, Co. Wicklow last weekend for what was a brilliant series of events even if they were naturally tinged with sadness at times. It's just after Ciaran's anniversary and it was nice to be there for the weekend. A walkway in the woods near the village is being developed and dedicated to Ciaran and a plaque was unveiled to his memory at the pitch. Approx 70-80 lads togged out for the 7 a side tournament for the Ciaran Shannon Cup with over 20 of us from Coolera/Strandhill as well as lads from all arts and parts and several of our new friends from Toronto. I was playing on a team containing players from the local club and one lads from their local rivals who they play against in the championship next Friday. The slagging was fierce but it was just great. Sligo's win on Saturday evening was greeted with great joy by all and sundry. As always we were brilliantly looked after by Annacurra club and community. The man himself would have been very proud.
I'm not sure what happened in my life at the time that I didn't hear about this at the time last year but was told about it sometime a few months back by a Wicklow GAA man that knew Ciaran. I knew him in those days that he was playing for Sligo and God he leaves a long shadow. As the father of three young kids, it just doesn't bear thinking about. As someone said earlier... it just isn't right but fabulous to hear of the weekend that Seanie describes - that is really what this whole thing should be about and great credit to the clubs involved.
