Seen that film on Tuesday night (DVD) "50 Dead Men Walking"
The film is set from 1987 until 1991, the time in which McGartland acted as an undercover informant within the IRA during The Troubles. In 1991 his cover was blown and he was kidnapped by the IRA, although he later escaped and went into hiding.
The film caused controversy for comments made at the premier by cast member Rose McGowan. The film was also criticised by McGartland as not being a true account of events, and he initially attempted to block release of the film.
At the time of the release of the film McGartland was still in hiding. The film takes its name from McGartland's claim within his book to have saved the lives of fifty people during his time as an informant.

Pile of shite. Realistic though - I was near knocked down the other night during a high speed gun battle with an ambulance on the Lisburn Road.

i enjoyed it knowing it was a true story and a we reminder of the bad old days but i know what you're saying Donagh about the acting which could have been a whole lot better and some of the scenes were funny but it was the general story line i enjoyed...

Martin McGartland went to bed one night. That night he a dream, a vision if you like. In it Martin Luther King and Gandhi took him by the hand and showed him all that was wrong in the world. He resolved there and then to make the world a better place. When he woke the following morning, he made his way to Woodbourne barracks and laid out his great scheme - he would inflitrate the IRA, regardless of any danger to his own well-being, simply because of what he had seen in the dream. Unfortunately, I'm assuming that this dream also didn't appear in the show.
No it didn't...so the film only contains half the story ???
