after a lengthy discussion last night... just wondering can anyone think of games (preferably more major ones over the last 20 years) where the weather really did rule the outcome of a game for one team. even for example where one player had to come off for heat exhaustion (unlikely here!) and because of that theyre marker scored to win or some of thoses kind of freak things! thanks

In 1956 the tribe through the fearsome Stockwell and Purcell had built up a sizable lead by half time with a big wind.  In the second half the wind died and when Mangan made that unlikely save from a fisted Jones effort the best hopes of the first time Ulster champions lay in tatters.

Mayo v Fermanagh - All-Ireland qualifier 2003.
The first real year of breakthrough for the county came under Dominic Corrigan thanks in part to the torrential Sligo rain. Fermanagh had built up a narrow lead but Mayo were coming strong in the closing stages when on came the heaviest shower of rain I've ever had the misfortune to stand in. Shocking downpour and Mayo won two very scoreable frees in the last 10 minutes to draw the game level. Maurice Sheridan, one of the countries finest free-takers at the time, slipped in the torrential rain and surface water running up to both and both were badly missed. We survived somehow, only to be absolutely destroyed by Tyrone on Croke Park in the subsequent quarter-final.
Our first Championship game ever in Croke Park, but not the last.
