Joe Montana Conference

Faithful Turfmen 111.14 - 77.90 Toronto Towers
The Turfmen appear to be set for a victory in this tie, bringing them to 1-1, barring something remarkable happening on Monday night. Their 34 point lead is largely attributable to the performances of Chargers QB Philip Rivers and Cardinals WR Anquin Boldin. Rivers recovered from an unlucky INT with his first pass against the Broncos to end up with 29.54 points on 377 passing yards, and 3 TDs. Boldin had another of his stellar days with 6 receptions for 140 yards and 3 scores against the hapless 'Phins, which netted 30 points for the Turfmen. Hines Ward (WR-PIT) had another good night with 11.45 points on 59 yards and a TD, while Adrian Peterson (RB-MIN) gained 180 yards, but without a score, which garnered 15 points. Nick Kaeding, the Chargers Kicker, rounded out the high scoring for the Turfmen with 12 points on 3 FGs and 3 PATs. The Towers had an early lead in this tie following the early games as Reggie Wayne (WR-IND) had a strong outing with 93 Receiving Yards and a TD for 13.65 points, while the Seahawks 'D' gained 18 points with a remarkable 8 sacks to go with 1 FR. The Turfmen send the Cowboys defence into action tonight, and while the Towers will have Greg Ellis on the field, the fact that he also plays for the Cowboys at DL means he will be serving two masters tonight.

O'Neill's Chargers 70.31 - 92.49 Broken Legs
It's the Brandon Marshal show for the Legs this week, so far, as the Denver Wideout translated his franchise best performance into 27.30 points, which puts the legs into the driver's seat in this tie as Jay Cutler's favourite target hauled in 18 catches for 166 yards and a TD in the Bronco's win over the Chargers. The Arizona Cardinals' defence must have set some sort of Franchise Fantasy record by scoring 10 points plus in two consecutive weeks, albeit a step down from week 1. The Cards gave up 10 points to the Dolphins, and had 2 sacks for 11 points towards the Legs cause. The rest of the Broken Legs squad were unspectacular, but did enough to ensure they hold a decent lead into tonight's game. O'Neill's Chargers, on the other hand find themselves facing an uphill battle, despite good nights for resurgent Tory Holt (WR-STL), who took advantage of then Saint Louis trying to dig itself out of a hole with 6 receptions for 76 yards and a score for 12.80 points, Frank Gore (RB-SF), who had 11.45 points on 61 yards rushing and a TD in the 'Niners win over the Seahawks, and the Pittsburgh Defence, who gave the Browns very little, allowing 6 points, with 2 sacks and an INT for 18 points. David Akers will have to have the game of his career tonight if the Chargers are to come back, as the Eagles' kicker faces the Dallas Cowboys, for whom the mouth of the south, Terrell Owens (WR) will be in action on behalf of the Legs.

Curragh Rams 78.71 - 84.08 Jack City
It is unclear to me at this stage whether the Texans - Ravens game which is rescheduled for later in the season will count retrospectivelly, or if it will count on the calendar week it is eventually played, but I am assuming the former. That being the case, the Rams can feel justifiably unlucking in trailing this very close encounter by just 6 points as Willis McGahee (RB-BAL) and Todd Heap (TE-BAL) are affected by this postponement. Having said that, the Jack City squad have still 3 men to count, so whether they would have scored enough is a moot point. For those who did play, the Rams had a standout performance at QB from the much maligned Aaron Rogers as the Green Bay signal caller took advantage of Detroit Lions secondary that looks like a poor college teams at times. Rogers had 328 yards through the air for 3 TDs and 27.81 points in the Packers win.  Quentin Jammer (DB-SD) had a solid night with 10 tackes and a FF for 10 points during the Broncos - Chargers shoot out, while the Colts defence adopted a bend - don't break philosophy against the Vikings, and allowed 5 fieldgoals only, with 3 sacks and a FR for a solid 10 points also. Jack City countered with some great performances from non-marquee names. The Bears defence/special team is rapidly gaining a reputation again, and with a TD, 3 Sacks, an INT and a blocked kick, they enhanced it to the tune of 20 points on Sunday. Meanwhile Justin Tuck (DL-NYG) feasted on the Saint Louis Rams to the extent that he racked up 20.50 points on 3 tackles, 2 Sacks, 1 TD and 1 INT. Donald Driver (WR-GB) was the only offensive player to really stand out as he gained 12.10 points on 52 yards and a TD. The Rams do have Nick Folk, the Dallas kicker on duty tonight, but unless he gets a lot of longish fieldgoals, it's hard to see him clawing back the deficit plus any contributions Brian Westbrook (RB-PHI), Jason Witten (TE-DAL) and DeMarcus Ware (DL-DAL) might also make to the Jack City cause.

Galway Bay Tribesmen 90.65 - 82.87 The Royal Badgers
An interesting tie is in progress here, with the Tribesmen holding an 8 point lead heading into the last of the action. They do have the advantage in terms of remaining players as well, but it's not a cast iron certainty yet.  The Tribesmen had big nights from Larry Fitzgerald (WR-ARI, 153 Yards, 14.65 points), Ryan Longwell (K-MIN, 5 FG, 17 points), the Buccaneers 'D' (9 points allowed, 4 sacks, 2 INTS, 19 points) and Patrick Kerney (DL-SEA, 5 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 10.50 points). On the other side of the equation, the Badgers had a huge night from Fitzgerald's supplier, Kurt Warner (QB-ARI) as the redbirds leader had 361 passing yards and 3 TDs for 29.22 points. Also stepping up in a big way was Detroit WR Calvin Johnson, who briefly looked like sparking a Lions comeback win with 129 yards and 2 scores for 23.95 points. The rest of the Badgers didn't really step up to the mark in the same way although their cause wasn't helped by Houston Kicker Kris Brown being sidelined due to the hurricane, and they must hope for an unbelievable night from the Philadelphia Eagles' 'D' against the Cowboys in Monday night's game. Even at that, the Tribesmen will be looking to Donovan McNabb (QB-PHI) to reproduce his week 1 display, and Felix Jones (RB-DAL) to do likewise in a bid to seal the deal.

Ruthless Rossies 73.17 - 163.20 Chargersabu
Performance of the week honours must surely be on the way to the chargersabu squad after a huge Sunday night performance from them, as the Rossies find themselves scoring over 70 points, and still being doubled up so far. The chargersabu had good nights all over the roster, with even the sub-10 point men having decent outings. They had 7 positions scoring double digits, and the pick of these was a night of nights for Jay Cutler, the Broncos QB. Cutler got the better of Philip Rivers in a real shootout in Mile High city as he threw for 350 yards with 4 TDs and 1 vital 2 Point conversion for 35.30 points. He was ably backed up by one of his real life targets, Eddie Royal (WR-DEN) as the rookie had a TD score and the 2pt Conversion for 12.50 points. Also starring for the chargersabu was Green Bay wideout Greg Jennings, with his 167 receiving yards for 15.35 points, Clinton Portis (RB-WAS) with 96 Rushing yards and 2 scores for 17.95 points, Kansas TE Tony Gonzalez (39 yards and a TD for 10.95 points), Mason Crosby (K-GB, 12 points) and the high scoring New York Giants 'D', who had 29 points on a TD, 6 sacks and an INT.In the face of scoring like that, the Rossies were fighting a losing battle, but Tampa Bay RB Earnest Graham did his bit, along with San Francisco DL Patrick Willis. Graham had 14.90 points on 116 Rushing Yards and a TD, while Willis got in the faces of the Seattle offence, ending with 8 tackles, a TD, and an INT.The Rossies do have 2 men on duty tonight, in the shape of Dallas wideout Patrick Crayton and Eagles DL Trent Cole, but the chargersabu also send Adam 'Pac Man' Jones into battle in a bid to add to their huge lead and score.

Royal County Kings 62.48 - 91.40 Big Apple Orchards
This is a tough week for the Royal County Kings, who had to suffer their starting QB, Jeff Garcia of the Bucs, being benched for the week, which really didn't help their cause. Added to that, the fact that God and the weather meant that the stingy Baltimore 'D' and Mario Williams (DL-HOU) didn't get a chance to play really mitigated the likelihood of a winning week in this one for the Kings. They did get an encouraging outing from Darren McFadden (RB-OAK) as the rookie ran for 164 yards and a TD, gaining 18.65 points, and Sebastian Janikowski (K-OAK) with 14 points, but that wasn't going to overcome the hurdles in their way. The Orchards took advantage via a big night from Eli Manning (QB-NYG, 260 yards, 3 TDs, 25.20 points). Manning was helped out by the Titans' formidable Defence (7 points allowed, 1 TD, 1 Sack, 2 Ints, 1 Blocked Kick, 23 points), Julius Jones (RB-SEA, 127 Rush Yards, 1 TD, 16.55 points) and Bryant Johnson (WR-SF, 78 Yards, 1 TD, 12.90 points). They were even able to swallow a -1 point performance from Cincinatti Kicker Shayne Graham without too much problem. Tonight sees LJ Smith togging out for the Philadelphia Eagles as the TE goes into action on behalf of the Orchards, while only Dalls DB Anthony Henry can improve the Kings' lot.

Hegan's Helmets 39.25 - 77.46 Craigyhill Terrors
Another blowout in progress here, and again it is slightly due to the Houston situation as neither of the helmets DLs could take the field. However, that isn't really a valid excuse, as the players on the field didn't perform to the required level, with only the Jaguars defense picking up the magical 10 points, in a loss to the Bills. All other positions were sub 10 point men, and only Marion Barber (RB-DAL) can help them out now, as he will strive to become the only individual to break that mark on the helmets squad. The Terrors were not at their best either in this one, but Plexico Burress (WR-NYG, 81 yards, TD, 12.55 points), Reggie Bush (RB-NO, 146 AP yards, 1 Return TD, 17.43 points), Josh Brown (K-STL, 11 points) and the New England 'D' (10 points allowed, 2 Sacks, 1 INT, 13 points) did enough to give them a comfortable lead heading into tonight. They can stretch their total through Tony Romo (QB-DAL) and DeSean Jackson (WR-PHI) as the Helmets hope for a Barber miracle.

Full scores tomorrow. Payton conference to follow.

Walter Payton Conference

Faithful Turfmen B 56.95 -  112.52 Ballyhaise Broncos
The Turfmen are behind the 8-ball in this tie, thanks largely to 4 inactive positions due to the Houston - Baltimore postponement. Andre Johnson (WR-HOU), Todd Heap (TE-BAL), Mark Clayton (WR-BAL) and Ray Lewis (DL-BAL) all had an unexpected day off, while Broncos' Chris McAllister (DB-BAL) was in the same boat. (No pun intended). The Broncos had big contributions in a fine overall score from Jon Kitna (QB-DET, 276 Yards, 2 TDs, 13.87 points), Greg Jennings (WR-GB, 167 Rec Yards, 15.35 points), Anthony Gonzalez (WR-IND, 137 Rec Yards, 13.35 points), Darren McFadden (RB - OAK, 164 yards, 1 TD, 17.65 points) and the Tampa Bay 'D' (19 points). Kitna's day would have been even better but for a 4th quarter implosion, which led to 3 INTs for -6 points. The Turfmen had a big night from Denver WR Brandon Marshall, in his record breaking outing (18 Receptions, 166 yards, 1 TD, 27.30 points) but Josh Scobee (K-JAX) was the only one who could follow his lead with 12 points. Hope springs eternal for the Turfmen however, and if Donovan McNabb (QB-PHI), Marion Barber (RB-DAL) and the Dallas 'D' all perform as they can, it's still not quite over, even though the Broncos, with Eagles kicker David Akers on duty, will be favoured to hold on fairly comfortably.

Mayo Mafiosi 102.26 - 44.63 Sexy Wrecksy
Another big lead, and another chance of a dramatic comeback in this one, as the Wrecksys will be attempting to overturn a 58 point deficit in one game. The Mafiosi have bounced back well from last week's result, and Eli Manning (QB-NYG, 260 Yards, 3 TDs, 25.20 points) was the main reason. Manning was backed up by Adrian Peterson's (RB-MIN) 180 AP Yard outing against the Colts, for 15 points and Tony Gonzalez's 10.95 points from Tight End as the Chief's man hauld in a TD catch off 39 yards receiving. The Patriots' 'D' rounded out the high scoring with 13 points picked up against the anaemic Jets. The Wrecksy squad only have the appropriately named (For New Orleans) Pierre Thomas (RB-NO) to thank, individually this week, as the Saints runner picked up 10.35 points from a TD rush. The Cardinals Defence, collectively, also added 11 points to the cause. The Mafiosi start 2 defensive players tonight, Quintin Mikell (DB-PHI) and DeMarcus Ware (DL-DAL) as they bid to close it out, but the Wrecksy team will be hoping for a huge comeback powered by Brian Westbrook (RB-PHI), DeSean Jackson (WR-PHI), Nick Folk (K-DAL) and Trent Cole (DL-PHI). The Yahoo predictions say that the Mafiosi will add 14 points, and the Wrecksys will add 32, so that wouldn't be enough. We'll see how it turns out.

Brett's Jets 82.62 - 92.60 Mother Puckers
It might yet be nail biting time for the managers of these two teams, as the Mother Puckers hold a slender 10 point lead, with the Jets sending Patrick Crayton (WR-DAL) into action tonight, as the Puckers are all done for the week. The Puckers had big nights from Payton Manning (QB-IND, 311 yards, 1 TD, 12.22 points), Reggie Wayne (WR-IND, 93 Yards, 1 TD, 13.65 points), Reggie Bush (RB-NO, 146 Yards 1 Return TD, 17.43 points) and, most importantly, the New York Giants 'D', with 29 points from a TD, 6 Sacks, and an INT against the Rams. The Brett's Jets defense answered emphatically with the Packers amassing 32 points on 2 TDs, 5 Sacks, and 3 INTs agains the Lions, which has kept the Jets in touch. Only San Diego Kicker Nick Kaeding with 12 points could do the business apart from the Packers 'D', and that is why Brett's Jets are in this situation. A Patrick Crayton TD reception tonight would be huge, , but the Jets might yet regret the fact that Houston DL Demeco Ryans was sidelined because of weather.

Red hand Helmets 142.00 - 45.80 thewobbler
Slightly better performance this week from thewobbler, but still totally outgunned as the Helmets turn in a strong back to back performance. Picking up a loss with more than 100 points scored is a big blow, but the Helmets have redoubled their efforts to amass a huge 140 points this week. It certainly helps when your receiving corps chip in with a combined 77 points, and that is exactly what Anquin Boldin (WR-ARI, 140 yards, 3 TDs, 30 points), Calvin Johnson (WR-DET, 129 Yards, 2 TDs, 23.95 points) and Santana Moss (WR-WAS, 164 yards, 1 TD, 23.05 points) did. Jason Campbell (QB-WAS) was a factor in Moss' score as well, as he threw for 321 yards and  the Moss TD for 16.47 points added to the Helmets score. Finally, the Steelers 'D' added 18 points in the late game from 6 points allowed, 2 sacks and 2 INTs. thewobbler again struggled to find many double digit positions, but Ryan Longwell (K-MIN) did manage that with 17 points as the Vikings were limited to Field Goals against the Colts. thewobbler's cause wasn't helped by the non-appearance of the Houston 'D', but the 0.00 were depressingly common throughout the roster. thewobbler will send Dallas RB Felix Jones into action tonight in a damage limitation exercise, but Cowboys WR Sam Hurd is out. The Helmets can sit back and enjoy the game on TV without any worries.

Crossmaglen Hitmen 113.90 - 109.05 The Knee Grows
Tie of the round is undoubtedly this clash as the Hitmen carry a 4 point lead into Monday night against the Knees. It's going to come down to a mano a mano competition between LJ SMith, the Eagles Tight End, representing the Knees, and Terrell Owens, Dallas' enigmatic WR on the Hitmen side. A touchdown either way could yet swing this game, and the Knees will be hoping that McNabb looks for Smith early and often, especially in the Red Zone. You can be sure that Owens will feature heavily on Romo's radar. To this point, there have been good outings on both sides, although the headliner is on the leader's roster. Jay Cutler, the Denver QB, went to town on Cromartrie and the rest of the Chargers secondary, amassing 35.30 points on 350 passing yards with 4 TDs and a 2pt Conversion. Helping shoulder the load was Seattle rusher Julius Jones with 127 yards and a TD for 16.55 points, Cutler target Tony Scheffler (TE-DEN) with 64 yeards and 2 TDs for 18.70 points and the Vikings 'D' with 10 points. The Knees had standout days for the Bears mean 'D', with 20 points, and Hines Ward (WR-PIT, 59 yards, 1 TD, 11.45 points), Frank Gore (RB-SF, 61 yards, 1 TD, 11.45 points), Earnest Graham (RB-TB, 116 yards, 1 TD, 14.90 points) and Patrick Willis (DL - SF, 8 tackles, 1 INT, 1 TD, 15 points) also contributed heavily. All to play for tonight then, and we'll see who's standing in the morning.

New York Jets II 62.20 - 76.85 Mayo Warriors
Another doozey underway in the penultimate tie of the round, as the Jets II chase a 14 point deficit on Monday night, with some good grounds for optimism. The Warriors hold the lead thanks to good performances from Plexico Burress (WR-NYG, 81 yards, 1 TD, 12.55 points), Donald Driver (WR-GB, 52 yards, 1 TD, 12.10 points), Eddie Royal (WR-DEN, 37 Yards, 1 TD, 2 Pt Conversion, 12.50 points) and the Seahawks 'D', with 18 points. The Jets II are still in contention due largely to a big day for Redskins ball carrier Clinton Portis, who chipped in with 17.95 points on 96 yards and 2 TDs, while Seattle kicker Josh Brown added 11, and the Jaguars 'D' added 10 points. This tie is going to the wire though, as the Jets II send potential point machine Tony Romo (QB-DAL) and defensive player Terrence Newman (DB-DAL) into action. The Warriors will be hoping that Romo is kept very quiet or, failing that, that his favoured target is their tight end, Dallas' Jason Witten. Adam 'Pac Man' Jones is also taking the field carrying the hopes of the Warriors as they bid to preserve the lead. This one could get tight.

L'Esprit de Biff 59.58 - 59.50 North Antrim Nuggets
The closest tie of the round may well be of relatively poor standard, but the Biffs will care not a whit about that if they hold on for their maiden win of the season, and they will because the only player that can play can't pick up negative points, namely Asante Samuel (DB - PHI). The Nuggets are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Ike as the impressive Baltimore Ravens defence is sidelined, and that would almost certainly have been enough to clinch the win, as the game panned out. The Biffs are struggling at quarterback, as Carson Palmer's season struggles to get motoring. The Bengals QB returned a negative point total (-1.32) on 2 interceptions and 0 TDs yesterday, and that is going to cost the Biffs unless it can be addressed, either in real life by Palmer, or in Fantasy world by the Biffs' manager. Outside Palmer, it was still nothing to write home about for the Biffs as only Denver kicker Mike Prater threatened the 10 point mark, and he fell 1 short. However, the rest of the roster just hung in there, and picked up enough 5,6,7 and 8s to give make them winners elect. With such poor scoring on the Biffs' side, the Nuggets will have fancied their chances, and when 2 players combined for 33.30 points alone, they would have hoped that the other 10 active positions would gain 30 points between them. Alas, they didn't. Larry Fitzgerald (WR-ARI, 153 Rec Yards, 14.65 points) and Chris Chambers (WR-SD, 83 Yards, 2 TDs, 18.65 points) did their stuff, and even Ben Roethlisberger (QB-PIT) had a decent if unspectacular outing with 9.72 points. That means that the other 9 active players achieved 16.48 points between them, with Shayne Graham (K-CIN) doing the most 'damage' with -1 point. If he makes that field goal, the Nuggets lead this tie by 4 points, and it's squeaky bum time for the Biffs. The Baltimore 'D' being out was the difference in this game, but you need luck, and the Biffs will take it.

Full Results tomorrow.

It's a perfectly valid approach ceiphas, but you must get a very good player in return. If Rogers and Romo are scoring 20 points per week, and your receivers are scoring 5 or 6, it makes sense to get rid of one of them for a receiver that's getting double digits every game.

mc_grens

Jesus lads. I went with Vincent Jackson over Chambers (6.65 points vs 18.65). I also went with Hasselbeck over JT (.38 points vs 22.25).

Thank God for the bears and Justin Tuck! Mind you Westbrook, Witten and Ware are still to go tonight so even if Baltimore- Houston had have gone on I reckon I might have scraped it (just about).

The Claw

I got a total of 5.70 from my two starting receivers who happen to be Randy Moss and Braylon Edwards. Anyone in Joe Montana conference want Derek Anderson or Matt Ryan for a RB. Ted Ginn and Antwaan Randle El also available.
