Starting to really look forward to this now. Few squads announced at the weekend and there's a few surprising omissions.
France have left out Trezeguet and Clichy. Spain have not included Raul.
Think there's a bit of a real changing of the guard in Europe with a lot of the older players moving on/excluded/retired like Rui Costa, Totti, Nesta, Raul, Kahn and so on. Time for a new breed of worldbeaters to emerge.

el Chino

i quite fancy sweden as a dark horse,

seen ibrahimovic hit two for inter today, with him fit and larsson they should get plenty of goals!!

AZOffaly

QuoteSpain have not included Raul.

Raul has been out of favour for a while with your lad Aragonés. I think, similar to the Del Piero argument in Italy, that it is causing a lot of a stir in the Spanish press, and amongst the 'pro-Madrid' fans and even players, against the 'anti-Madrid' fans and players. I think a lot of lads, especially the Catalans and Basaques are happy that Raul is out of the picture, he was a fairly negative voice in the World Cup apparently. The coach has left himself open for a kicking by excluding him though, especially if Spain underachieve again, so it is a brave enough move, but probably the right one.

Final squads due May 28th

Billys Boots

France have four keepers and Willy Sagnol, and left Clichy at home - Jaysus.
My hands are stained with thistle milk ...

AZOffaly

That's only a provisional squad Billy, so I'd say one of the keepers will definitely go. Very surprised at Clichy alright. Trezuguet is another notable omission.

Billys Boots

The Netherlands squad (defence) wouldn't fill you with confidence heading for the bookies either.

AZOffaly

Bouma :D He's one of those 'How the fcuk?' players.

Billys Boots

Yeah, he's surely in the 'total football' tradition.  :P

AZ he is effective at what he does, although it is fair to say he is not blessed with natural talent, hard as nails! He must be around the Dutch squad for 7/8 years now though?
