Bought these last week and they see to be grand for a novice. Not too dear either!!

They do look like a decent wee set SS...kinda simliar to what i have only driver i got with clubs i never use...dont seem to like it but instead always use the 5 wood off the tee when drive is needed....i have a fairly good bag and putter that i like....mite be as well looking for set of irons just and get a driver in sports direct with a huge head for very small money....if the 5 wood still works for me then i havent lost a pile by gettin the driver....ps i dont have an official handicap apart from my back swing :) but would guess im about a 20 ( balls i know :( )

There are plenty of sets of irons out there that shouldn't break the bank, Frank.

Iron brands I'd recommend in the 300-500$ price range (whatever that is at home), include the Taylor made burner irons,
Celevland tour action irons (I play these and love them), cleveland launcher (hybrid/iron mix), or some of the adams, callaway or nike irons in that bracket.

Just try them all out. It's fun.

few years is a long enuf time to be using the same set of clubs....

I still use irons that are a model from 2/3 years ago. Hit them so well, would not think about changing and I have dramatically improved since I had them.

Have you grown in the last 2 years?

thye were prob a fairly cheap set that have done my job up until now....if i didnt enjoy golf then they were the perfect set as not much money was lost finding out....

Still don't understand why they still cannot use them? Are you playing much more golf than you were?

however its something i would love to get good at...

Invest in a few lessons first with a good pro and see if you can improve. You will also get a better idea what you want/need in a new set of clubs too.

see my friends with new clubs and wouldn mind treain myself to something too...any advice would be good

I see people all the time with the latest and greatest custom fit clubs, doesn't mean they can use they or they even suit their game. If you don't get the basics sorted, no matter how much you spend will help.

If you are looking for a cheap but decent set of game improvement clubs bigfrank I would recommend the Cobra S2MAX.
You should be able get them cheap enough as there is a new version out for this year called the S3MAX.
There won't be a whole lot of difference in one year so I'd go for the older set.

If you don't use a driver then these come with a 3* 4* and 5* Hybrid then irons from 6-SW.

Btw I agree with Puckoon, just try a load of them. But what I would say is try and go a Golf shop at a driving range, you don't have to buy them there but you can try the clubs out with proper drives by using the driving range.
If you just go to a normal golf shop all you have to test them on is a golf simulator and these are all set up to make you think you are hitting the bestest straightest and longest golf shots of your life with their €1000 clubs!! Don't be fooled into thinking a new set will make you Tiger Woods overnight!
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

Very true that, Lee Trevino was asked for his thoughts on the changes in golf club technology a few years ago...... "its not the bows and arrows, but the indians that are using them"

On the other hand if a new set of golf clubs will get me laid with porn startlets on a regular basis ill be down the pro shop tomorrow morning.. ;) ;)

bigfrank

Yeah will make plans to maybe get to nevada bobs at weekend...i know they let u take few swings/shots with the clubs...rather get a hold of the club before i buy online hopefully for a cheaper price...

p.s if these new clubs either get me playin better or laid with pornstars it will be money well spent....the latter scarily for my game has prob the better chance  :P

Just purchased a set of Taylormade R7's off gumtree. Think they are about 4 years old, anyone ever had experience of them?

Got a 2nd hand set of iron from American Golf on sale for 110 quid (my mate knew the fella as well) and they look like they have hardly been used. I'm only a beginner so I don't know much about them compared to what the other lads on here would but the difference in a cheap set(dunlop and the likes)is unreal. They are easier to hit, the ball goes further and they have an all round better feel to them.

Big Frank, I would get a good make of clubs but go for 2nd hand ones. Go into Nevada Bobs, American Golf or even your local golf clubs pro shop and ask can you see their 2nd hand clubs. I am on the look out for a 2ball odessy putter if anyone knows where to get one at.

Cheers Jim, I paid a £100 for them, hopefully they'll do the job for me

Anyone ant experience of the make Bay Hill and in particular Bay Hill by Palmer TORO 460cc Square Beta Titanium Driver?

Been offered a cheap one but can't find much info on them

Puckoon

Never heard of them.

How good are you, and how serious are you? If you are serious about the golf then....

What I would suggest, especially with the driver, is not taking any chances. Go to your pro shop, go to somewhere where they can analyse your swing. That way you will get the best club possible. There is so much variation in shaft stiffness, club head speed , swing speed, degree of loft ect.

I learned the hard way with about 800$ down the tubes on three drivers - mainly because I didn't know how to pair up the club I needed, with the swing speed and motion that I had.

bigfrank

anyone use clubs like the ones in the link...doin a bit of random googling and looking about..this type of club came up a few times when u type words like improving golfer or high handicapper??

Have these. Brilliant. In just a year went from 18 to 11, winning three club comps. Consistently making 36 points.  Can keep ball straight and on the fairways, which leaves me with plenty of birdie chances. Looking at a new putter now to make the step into single figures.

Not a bad player. Use to play off 18 but not a member anywhere anymore and don't play nearly as often asI would like. I actually play more in the US when I'm out. I've been offered the club for 25 quid so might just buy it. Don't won't to pay big bucks for something I'm going to use half a dozen times a year. Can't find any info on Bay Hill which makes me a little apprehensive but at 25 quid it's hardly a big risk
