never liked cavan, not since 1947 anyway.

If ye stayed at home and hadn't been away fighting the Nazis they wouldn't have been able to steal anything.

Not sure what was stolen but WWII ended in 1945.

cavan beat kerry in the 1947 all ireland football final played in the polo grounds in new york. some kerry folk like to think we were robbed but thats not quite true.... somehow the jews (see below) were involved :D

Quotesince it is arguable that the only time Ireland ever was united was under the Crown!

Like Europe was united under Hitler, no doubt you OWC lot are nostalgic for those happy times.

No, we were the ones who went to war with The Little Corporal, whereas the Free State (including poor oul Cavan) remained neutral.

Which I suppose was a fair enough call:

"Let me see, now, the lives of six million Jews, versus the trains running on time? Dammit, that's a hard one and no mistake. Ach, to Hell with it all, we'll just sit back and let them have it out between them..."  :o

QuoteNo, we were the ones who went to war with The Little Corporal,

Well done, no doubt you think that countries who seize and colonise their neighbours should be opposed.

Cavan wasn't quite neutral, it provided butter and bacon to the Allied war effort.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Absolutely. We can start with the Gaels - send them back to wherever they came from, I say. And the Vikings, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Normans... etc

Freedom for the Picts of Dalriada!

What? For free? It's Cavan we're talking about here; I'm sure they got paid, you know. In fact, they probably put their prices up, on account of The Emergency and that.

Anyhow, who do you think it was shipped the Free State its Oil, Coal and other non-indigenous essentials during the war? I'll give you a clue: It was a Merchant Navy, but not the German one.

Still not got it? Try reading "The Cruel Sea" by Nicholas Monsarratt. It's about Naval Escort duty on the Atlantic convoys which brought supplies from North America to the British Isles.

And when I say "British Isles", I mean all  of them, not just the British ones... ;)
"If you come in here again, you'd better bring guns"
"We don't need guns"
"Yes you fuckin' do"

I'd be quite happy for the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland to be once more! ;)

Lets get Ireland reunited first and we'll see about the rest ;)

A reversion of the 26 to the UK would be one way towards reuniting Ireland and even rather apt, since it is arguable that the only time Ireland ever was united was under the Crown!  :D

P.S. If, like the car in Johnny Cash's song, Bertie is actually planning to do it "one piece at a time", couldn't he have started with somewhere more attractive than Cavan?  ;)

In Irish Folklore Connacht conqured ALL IRELAND even Ulster :-) Damn straight the boys from the West in charge.

Thought the Brits claimed they knew nothing about the Concentration camps, bet they said that during the Boar War too  :D

No need to send anyone back anywhere, just an expectation that they'll settle in and stop trying to run Ireland on behalf of the place they came from, hopefully having brought a few better restaurants in the meantime.

This isn't a story..... seriously, have so many people picked this up so wrong?  I have just watched the video - there's no inference that Cavan is not in the Republic - he's merely stating that he wishes to keep the topic on the country as a whole and not specific to certain areas!

Please watch the video - from about 40 seconds in - does nobody else see this!?
