QuoteAll-Ireland referees named
04 September 2007

The GAA has confirmed that the Bank of Ireland All Ireland Football final between Cork and Kerry on September 16th will be refereed by David Coldrick of Meath.

Currently a member of the Blackhall Gaels club, he won minor and U21 football championship medals with Kilcloon - Moynalty in Meath and has had a busy year which included refereeing the Mayo v Galway Allianz football league semi-final, the Ulster Senior Championship final and the All Ireland Quarter final between Kerry and Monaghan. Last year he took charge of his first AIB All Ireland Club final and also refereed the Kerry v Armagh All Ireland quarter final. Mr Coldrick's team of match officials on the day were also confirmed. Marty Duffy (Sligo) will be the stand-by referee (and linesman), Maurice Deegan of Laois will act as linesman and the sideline official will by Donegal's Robert O Donnell.

The minor final between Derry and Galway will be refereed by Longford's Derek Fahy. An intermediate county medallist in 1998 with the Ballymahon club, he made his debut as an inter-county referee in 2005. His past appointments have included a Bank of Ireland Munster senior championship quarter final and the meeting of Cavan and Down in this year's Ulster Championship. He will be joined by Brian Tyrell of Tipperary (stand by referee), Kerry's Pat Sheehy (linesman) and sideline official Brian O Shea (Dublin).

Bit of a joke if you ask me. He was a disaster in the quarter final.
Methinks you'd need McEnaney to keep those dirty southerners in order  :P

Barney

You could have guessed that back in January. it was his turn. Meath needed to oblige by not getting there.

Duffy and Deegan on the line! Hope they are not next in line for promotion.

This AI needs Gerry Kinneavey. If things get dull at least Gerry will be guaranteed to brighten it up and get the usual Garda escort.

Why not get the legend that is John Bannon!!

;D ;D ;D

Come on,  in all fairness you couldnt put Kerry through that again.

I am amazed at this appointment - not a good referee - it should be Pat Mc Eneaney who is the best referee in the country by a mile - I really hate this thing about it being Coldrick's "turn" - why should it be anyone's turn - it should go the best at all times - if the best ref is Coldrick then give it to him - but he shouldn't get it just cos somebody thinks it's his "turn" !!!!

Another example of how the GAA do so much right, and then make a shit out of it by potentially having a referee make a controvesy out of the showpiece event.

Gnevin

As great as Pat is he cant ref every match
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

I know he can't referee every match - noone can - but why not appoint the best for the showpiece event where there is a fair chance that there could be a bit of needle - had he refereed the Dublin v Kerry match, we would have got a better match all round - and less needle cos the players would have known what and who they were dealing with - Bannon was weak -

dont think coldrick is a great ref- to say the least.

He was VERY good to derry in one of the qualifier matches I think it was , or some game I saw him handle that Derry were involved in

overall, he has improved as a ref, but is still way off the standard required imo

Coldrick had a poor all ireland quarter-final, bannon is poor every game.

Derry v Mayo.

Yes, he tends to let a lot of stuff go from what I can tell with him. Don't think he is that bad to be honest, considering there isn't much better about.

behind the wire

anyone who attended the down v armagh nfl game in crossmaglen earlier this year knows all about mr coldrick. apart from some east down performances this was possibly the poorest example of refereeing i have seen in a while. good chance he could ruin the final.
He who laughs last thinks the slowest

Armagh Exile

He's from Meath which is not called the Royal County for nothing.
Sure didn't they even get the GAA top brass to change the referee when Jimmy McKee was appointed to referee them and Cork.

Is this the man who stood by and did nothing last year in the IR game.  He was so lost MCananey had to come on the field to help him out.  He is and was useless.  This harks back to the Kerry - Roscommon final when they appointeds  Seamus? Murray from Monaghan because he was the leadingCiste Gael (lottery) salesman in the country and he proceeded to have a total mare of a game just as anyone who ever saw him ref knew he would.

Its a shame to see the best in the country so under used. What other game would have their very best man doing the 4th official at a tough Championship game?  (Derry Armagh this year)

Owenmoresider

Coldrick is bad but the stand-by ref, our own M. Duffy, is worse still. So bad that players can't seem to avoid hitting him with the ball. ;D

Datsun Donaghy

He might be a nice person, but he is one poor, poor, poor referee.

If the game cuts up rough, which with Darragh O'Se and Paul Galvin around it is likely to do, Coldrick will be found wanting Big Time!
