The Irish MBassy is a good bad just of the main square.  Would be a decent spot for watching the rugby if its on when you're there.  There are good clubs and places, many in undergrund cave like structures.  There are also plenty of spots to watch jazz if you're into that thinkl.  We were at a really good brewery, again underground, the first time I was there but I can't remember the name.

There is also a really good chocoloatiers on the main square (near the tower where the wee man comes out on the trombone) that does hot chocolate with various flavours and all sorts of fancy desserts.  IT will be a hit with the woman if you are breaking her.

Re. things to do. Auschwitz and the Salt Mines are the main things.  Auschwitz is harrowing but something every1 should go to.  IT was only 60 years ago it all happened after all.  Salt mines are easy to get to on the tram and relatively sheap.  Worth doing.  Think you walk down about a million steps to get down and then get squahed in a tiny elevator coming up. But sure its a bit of craic.  Wawel castle is in the town and worth a walk around, though as castles go its probably not the best.

Overall, Krakow is a great ciity and you'll have a good time.

Was there last janurary and its a great city.  Food is good, it even has a mc donalds!  There are a few nightclubs in a row beside each other just off the main square, outside these clubs the taxi drivers target the tourists to take them to the various strip clubs and brothels located just outside the city!  Pubs are great, pints are cheap and vodka is very cheap! There is a casino beside that castle but didnt go to it.

Flying over to Krakow in 2 weeks for a family wedding, anyone any experience of a Polish wedding??  I will obviously be wearing my 6 Counties soccer jersey with pride.

Also, my passport expires this June, is there any issue with this?  i.e. as it expires less than 3 months after my journey do I need to renew ASAP??

Doubt it. It would do no harm to check it out though. Don't go singing 'one Warren Feeney' though.

A pretty good description that tallies with my own experiences there.

Gold

Go to the Gold Club--also heard good reports re the Pussycat Club!
"Cheeky Charlie McKenna..."

Rav67

Go to club Kitsch- its a great spot.  Clubs seem to be open all night there.  The city square is lively in the evenings with food stalls and entertainment.  There's an indoor water park as well if you wanna do somehing relaxing during the day.

Gaffer

IF you can manage it, visit the salt mines.
Its like being in another world !!!

Very good reports!

Newbridge Exile

I was there about 18 months ago and really enjoyed it , found it reasonably cheap - a pint of local bear was working out approx £1.10-1.40( although the exchange rate now not as favourable)
In terms of pubs one i would recommend is Nic Nowego's Irish Cafe Bar on Ul. Sw Krzyza 15, Krakow, it is a modern bar which serves good food and is a world apart from the usual" traditional" Irish bars you see on the continent
I would advise a visit to the salt mines and to Auschwitz , for Auschwitz  we used Public Buses to get there and back ( a hell of lot cheaper than a organised tour and quite an experience too)  and did not go on a guided tour once there  but payed a pound to get an English guide book out there, which let you take it in at your own pace as opposed to literally being herded about in one of the groups

If you are any way claustrophobic the lifts down to the mines are great craic.

I am staying in a town about 60kms south of Krakow, is the transport system good over there?  Think the salt mines and Auschwitz have to be must sees.

A fella  I work with had 2 brothers married out in Poland , As long as you like Vodka i think you will be OK , both weddings had a free bar for the whole day and the following day the two families and a few close friends  met up and again the Brides family paid for it all
