Does anyone know the precise structure of the backdoor draw?

Assuming Derry beat Antrim and Louth beat Wicklow there will only be 11 teams involved in the 1st round of the backdoor. The winning teams from round 1 are then scheduled to play the 8 losers of the provincial semi-finals in round 2 of the backdoor. How is this going to work?

1. Armagh
2. Cavan
3. Fermanagh
4. Limerick
5. Mayo
6. Kildare
7. Westmeath
8  losers from Louth v Wexford
9. losers of Dublin v Meath
10. losers of Monaghan v Down
11. losers of Longford v Laois

The following teams cannot play in the backdoor games unless they end up being losers in their provincial final.

Antrim | Offaly | Clare | Carlow | London | Tipperary | Waterford | Wicklow

#2
the other fixture would have been offaly v carlow to make up the other team , but with both of those in division 4 next year it doesn't occur, maybe a couple of teams will get a bye?
Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.

losers of Monaghan/Down v Derry/Antrim

losers of Sligo/Roscommon
losers of Galway/Leitrim
losers Kerry/Waterford
losers Cork/Tipp

Big problems if Antrim/Waterford/Tipp or Wicklow qualify for provincial finals.

Pat,

as armaghniac said, the only people that don't go in the draw for the 1st Round are the provincials finalists. if you are in Div 4 of the league next year and go out before your provincial final, you go straight to the Tommy Murphy cup. so that is 8 teams in the TM, 8 in the provincial finals, which leaves 16 for the 1st round draw, and there are only 3 qualifier rounds this year. round 3 will be the remaining teams in the qualifiers thrown in with the provincial losers. the winners in this round then go into the Q/F draw. hope this helps.

i didnt realise round one went with so many teams it in it. The long wait until 7th July is explained now. It would be tough on wicklow if they were to win 2 championship games and still not be allowed in the back door!

Hang on, does that mean that if Tyrone beat Donegal, then Donegal and Armagh are at the same stage in the qualifiers, and therefore Donegal would have got no extra benefit for beating Armagh?

Yes. Even worse they will aggravated us, making it worse for themselves.

Sure that's ridiculous.  I'm glad Armagh got bate now!!  We can take a rest like Kerry do every year.

Star Spangler

The advantage is that Donegal/Tyrone will at least get an extra game - and God knows they could use one!

stpauls

aye feckitt, but it also means we could be drawn against them again in the first round if tyrone beat them in the semi!!!

edit: woohoo, just reached 100 posts, i am finally a full member!!  ;D

Armagh meeting Tyrone or Donegal in the first round of the qualifier would cause much weeping and gnashing of teeth for someone.

Wouldn't a Wicklow v Offaly Leinster Final rightly f**k things up.

In the cold light of day these new structures don't really seem to work for me.

It's unfair that the occasional minnow who slays a few giants, rare though that is, doesn't get a tilt with the rest if they fall short of a provincial final. at the very least Tommy Morphine winners/finalists should get back into the back door draw or something - just throwing that out there now, I expect it would cause some sorts of problems but funelling teams into a meaningless championship is too much sacrifice for too little reward.

Also, am I correct in saying that Down could beat Cavan, Monaghan and then lose to Derry by a point or something and get dumped into same round of qualifiers as either of the teams they beat? Except with less rest or worse morale?

Weird system, it's never perfect but they've made it worse.

All this to free up weekends for clubs which is highly laudable but all's I know is there won't be a round of the SFC played in cavan before the end of July, as usual totally disregarding any measures taken like this to free up weekends and so on.
