Brian Kerr - won both U16 and U18 European Championship and 3rd in Youth World Cup. Don't think any Irish manager had matched that yet.

And don't forget Patrick O'Connell the only Irishman to manage a team to a La Liga title (what was that you were saying about anything of note with a major club across the water).

It is an interesting conundrum alright.  What reason could there possibly be that the nationalist community in the north would excel in a field requiring tactics, strategy, top-down organizational discipline and the utilization of relatively limited manpower?
