Two lads that are starters for their senior clubs ( Jack Connaughton,John Gannon) out injured. Hopefully the lads give it their best shot and we'll see where it takes us. Best of luck to the young rossies.
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

Galway 0-8 Mayo 1-2

Galway definitely look the better side but a late penalty on the stroke of half-time has brought Mayo right back into it.

Gal 0-12 Mayo 1-5, Galway are down to 14 after one of their midfielders was sent off for 2 yellows.

That's a big shock.

It's a shock on form but it's hard to say that it's a big one when the reigning All Ireland champions get through the first round. The management got it right last year and have hit the ground running for the championship.

Syferus

Not a big shock. Mayo were better than Galway at U16 last year and they obviously have good management. Being AI champions even in name has to give young lads confidence.

Connacht football is feckin' great.

Best of luck to the young Rossies tonight.

Desperate stuff. Mayo never lead until the last minute of normal time. Terrible two years from John Donnellan. Had two very good minor teams and they threw it away both years to different extents. Made a hames of it. At least last year the sides were close enough talent wise but they lost to probably an inferior side this year. To concede a penalty followed later by a needless red card in a game when you are cruising 6 points up is just schoolboy stuff even if they actually are schoolboys. It swung the entire momentum of the game. At least the weather was good.

Best of luck to Mayo. Certainly better on the line and that matters if the talent levels are comparable.

Devanney auditioning for Marty's position in our hearts at this stage. Penalty was a mile outside the box but the ref was having none of it. Marginal calls all going against us.

Good performance by the team though. Stack, Carty, Gatley and Bannon impressing. More success in the middle and we can win it.

Great team effort. Should have won it by even more so plenty to work on. Noel Gately is a hell of a player. Evan McGrath took control of the game at the end, leadership of the highest calibre when we needed it. Stack was a rock at the back and Carty and Bannon drove us forward from HF.

And I'll accept an apology in writing, monetary donations or Connacht final tickets, Rossfan.
