when you don't pick from the WHOLE of the county, you'll never win anything

it's the one thing about Roscommon minors over the past 9 years.
players from clubs, who will generally never win anything major at underage, get starting places eg Barrys, Glaveys, Eire Óg, St Ciarans and are part of the squad
just an observation

I'm not referring to the management not selecting players for the county panels. The clubs are not producing players. Eastern Harps and Shamrock Gaels two amalgamated clubs covering large areas who have in the past have been very competitive at underage and senior level but now are not getting players into county panels. One representative west Sligo clubs. It's not just this year it has been the case for the last 5/6 years. County board needs to do something about this urgently

Football is on life support in west Sligo but what are the county board doing - breaking rules to try to set up another hurling club in west Sligo and incurring big costs in so doing. Joke.

Harps demise at underage especially is a surprise. They were so strong for years.

My own club is pitiful at underage level after a long enough run of supplying decent players to county panels. We had one lad on the minor panel this year who didn't make the match day squad but he is underage next year and a good prospect. There is good workl going on at 4-10 age groups so hopefully we can get back to being competitive soon.

T'would have made for a grand atmosphere if they'd paired the two SFs in the Hyde or Tuam.. but.. politics.

Jasus Syfín will ya let us have an odd oul game in the Hyde.
Any news from the camp at all? Great silence from my "agents" anyway.

All the better for sticking the knife in Leitrim.

Really looking forward to this one. Fergal ran the rule over a lot of players in the minor league so I'm not at all sure what the first team will be besides the obvious ones. I wonder will Evan McGrath continue in the middle as he was tried at during the league? Certainly one of our big players this year and we could look to run a lot of the game through him.

Moy Davitts are are producing a serious amount of good young footballers these days....think they will make a serious clip at the Intermediate this year.

I'd hope Mayo win if only for the Ballagh ladeens and to (hopefully) get a look at Akram in the Connacht final. Looked a serious prospect at U16 last year and the fact he's starting for ye in his first minor grade year tells its own story. Interesting that he's been named at wing-forward. Hanley was growing with each game last year and was perhaps Mayo's best player before he broke his collarbone, so he's obviously key in a side with very little returning starters from the AI-winning side.

Obviously the form book coming up through the grade favours Galway - the two Galway sides contested the Ted Webb final in 2012 - so you'd have to make them solid favourites in Tuam. Not beyond possibility for an upset though.

Syf - you're arse lickin of the Rhus (and esp the lost tribe of Ballaghites) is embarrassing and nauseating.

We've scraped together an oul biteen o a team for tomorrow -

1 Shane Mannion (Naomh Bríd)

2 Jack Casey (Uarain)
3 Brian Stack (Naomh Bríd)
4 Martin Flannery (Clann na nGael)

5 Fergal Lennon (Clann na nGael)
6 Evan McGrath (Mainistir na Búille)
7 Eoin Fallon (C) (Naomh Aodáin)

8 Tom Butler (Na Piarsaigh)
9 Ronan Raftery (Naomh Caoimhin Caislean Rabhiach)

10 David Connaughton (Clann na nGael)
11 Luke Carty (Naomh Bríd)
12 Killian Bannon (Clann na nGael)

13 Noel Gately (Naomh Ciaran)
14 Hubert Darcy (Na Piarsaigh)
15 Kevin Smyth (Naomh Crón

Reasonable enough but we seem on a downward curve these days as our last 2 U16s were poor enough and this year's lot don't seem to be up to much eother.
Hopefully we'll keep her kicked out to the Laythrums anyway  :-\

It's a wonder we found 15 lads with two working legs with Mayo carting two of our fellas off to Tuam for the day. Some of our lads had to be kidnapped from rugby teams (shudder, ain't I right Ross?) too . I'm feeling the fear, the big fear.
