What's the story? - Gmail 'I would like to add you as a friend'

I have received a couple of these requests from colleagues at work recently. It looks legit and you'd think it could be part of Google+ or something like that.

Basically you get an email from a gmail account that seems valid and the name on it is known to you.

It goes along the lines of

x.y@gmail.com wants to follow you

I would like to add you as a friend

Accept - Decline (buttons)


At the top there is a small link to <Click here to discover x.y@gmail.com's favorite websites!>

The last part suggests it is either some phishing scam or that Google has completely lost the plot offering people's website history.

Scam or no scam?
