Lads, at least aim to make it to all three Connacht finals with that draw. Sligo at home this year for Ros in senior, if won then away to the Lovelies?

Brigids, Boyle and Michael Glavey's for me.

Not sure about the junior.

Was at the senior double header in Hyde park today the first game played in very strong winds & the odd shower was a poor watch, Castlerea almost went a full half without scoring and got two late goals to give the final scoreline a bit of flattering look.  The 2nd game was close contested game & for the 3rd time this summer the AI champs have been put to the pin of their collar. After injury hit year good to see Donie Shine back on form but once again it was the experienced Frankie Dolan that got Brigids over the line.

Senior

St Brigids 1-7 Clann na nGael 0-9
Western Gaels 1-10 Castlerea 2-4

Intermediate

Boyle 1-14 St Michaels 1-7
Tulsk 1-15 Oran 0-9

Junior

Michael Glaveys 1-8 Shannon Gaels 1-7
Fuerty 1-14 Strokestown B 1-3

Both matches ruined by horrible weather and a horrible pitch at the Hyde. Brigids battled against gale-force wind and rain in the first half but had no real wind advantage in the second half thanks to the schizophrenic weather. Hard to read much into the result but Westies should provide the best possible test for Brigids in Roscommon this year.

And county-level refereeing. You gotta love it. Or hate it with a vengeance. Probably the later.

Considering the heavy rain & two games on it i thought the pitch held up fairly well & at least it was cut today plus the lines panted. So a draw you fancy for the final then as Brigids have only won by one point in their last two games.  :D

Any Galway posters want to discuss their weekend games? Corofin v  Salthill/Knocknacarra looks like tasty senior county final.

Brigid have yet to even name their first 15. Cake saw his first action of the run-in today, Darren Dolan on the bench and Ian K an unused sub. Domo not back yet.

Today was as much about muggy conditions as Brigids but if we were to assume decent conditions and a near full-strength Brigids line-up then Westies are very unlikely to win, I simply think Westies are again clearly the next best thing to Brigids in Roscommon. Whether that translates into a result similar to Fhailes' or Clann's I'm not too sure but the standard of play should be at its highest level yet.

Some people are saying it's a sign of competitive championship that Brigids were ran close a few times but the standard left a lot to be desired today and Clann have to be aiming for a much better performance than that in the years to come if they're going to maximise their available talent.

Westies looked as good as you can look in those conditions and ending a game with 13 men on the field.

Brigids have arguably the strongest panel of players in Connacht for example they were able to bring in Eoin Sheehy,Garvan Dolan as replacements and Darren Dolan,Conor McHugh came off the bench today. No matter the team they choose they always keep the spine of their side strong though how they replace Frankie,Mango,Senan in the years ahead will be very interesting

No sign it is competitive and hopefully that competitiveness in our club championship will bring on our county team. The Murtaghs,Shines etc are as good if not better than what Gaels have so no the standard of player won't be much different in the final & don't be expecting warm, sunny, calm weather in October either.

Tasty but a bit dull. Corofin seem to be there every year. Milltown had a great chance today as Corofin were reduced to 14 men for most of the game but like they often do, Corofin found a way to win.

In the other game Salthill managed to hold off their rivals from the other side of Galway city. St James might become the best team in the city sooner or later but not quite yet.

True it can get dull with the same old but Corofin remain your best bet to win the Connacht title &  Ian Burke is massive addition to their forward line.

Sounded like Shine junior should have got a goal in the last couple of minutes?

Goal? The big chance was a point that was missed. There was a half-chance at a goal earlier on but the final pass was way too slow and the man was smothered and Cake had to make a relatively simple (for the best keeper in Ireland) save.

Is McStay still managing Brigids?

No. Last years selector Benny O Brien is now manager, with McHale training team.
