I wonder how many consecutive wins that is for Glen at minor level in Derry and Ulster.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Good question. They've had 8 games in Ulster the last two years, plus whatever the Derry Championship is. Here's the Slaughtneil goals, which were very good, just too late - http://www.jeromequinnmedia.com BTW Conor Glass was outstanding again, and only just turned 17, I think.

Jimmy

Bound to be just turned 16 as he was the U16 captain this year.

Glen minors haven't lost a game in any competition (league or championship) since August 2010.

I think Jimmy's correct in that he's only 16 - was a 4th year when St Pat's won the Hogan earlier this year.  As someone mentioned in the Derry thread, he could potentially have 5 county minor medals by the time he hits 18.

So, 8 Ulster games and 12 Derry games? (4 games to win it in Derry?)

Watty Graham's Glen secure three-in-a-row

Joy quickly turned to quiet satisfaction for Watty Grahams Glen last night as they collected their third minor football title in as many years under Owenbeg's floodlit glow.

'A job only half done' was how captain Stephen O'Hara described the achievement, clearly alluding to months of training ahead, as he and his team mates prepare for the now annual trip to West Belfast over the Christmas period.

The management may have changed but the methods remain much the same. Goal blitzes had been the hallmark of Enda Gormley's two winning teams at the previous two St Paul's tournaments. With much of the forward unit returning from last year it was newcomer, and 16-year-old, Jack Doherty who bagged the first goal mid-way through the first half.

Slaughtneil had made a confident start but were rocked by the concession of a second goal barely one minute after the first. Following a Stephen O'Hara sideline, Conor Convery latched onto a quick pass and used his experience to squeeze the ball under the advancing Slaughtneil goalkeeper.

Buoyed by two goals and now totally dominant, the champions pressed home their advantage with three unanswered points to lead 2-06 to 0-02 at the break.

That blitzkrieg would have broken many teams; but not Slaughtneil. To their eternal credit, the young Emmet's never dropped their heads; even following the concession of two further points at the start of the second half.

Cormac O'Doherty grabbed the game by the scruff to add two fine scores; the first a solo effort following a tenacious run and finish. Frank McEldowney then breathed real life back into Slaughtneil's challenge with a brilliant finish to the corner of the net.

Glen looked to have steadied the ship following that score with two fine points pushing their lead to six points with ten minutes remaining. Again, O'Doherty led the charge for the Emmet's reducing the gap to four. Proceedings seemed to be done and dusted after Stephen O'Hara's left foot effort added his team's final score with four minutes left to lead by five points.

However, as typified their second half effort, Slaughtneil pulled one back in the final stages before a cool finish from Shane McGuigan left only three points between the teams deep into injury time. The resultant kick-out from Ciaran McCloy was met by Martin McErlane's final whistle of the evening – an evening on which both clubs deserve tremendous credit for their mature performances.

Congratulations to Watty Graham's Glen – Derry Minor Football Champions 2013 (...and 2012...and 2011).

Some of the Glen posters could confirm, but I don't think he was on the panel which won the first championship. I don't think he would even have been allowed to as there is, or at least was a rule, where an underage player can't play two grades above their age, i.e. an u12 could only go as far as u14, an u14 could only go as far as u16, and an u16 could only go as far as minor.

There was a row over Ryan Bell not being allowed to play for Ballinderry in 2008 as he was still U14, or was it the fact that he did play and an opposing team objected saying he shouldn't have been. Something along those lines.

3 games to win Derry this year. Bellaghy, Ballinascreen and Slaughtneil.
2 games last year I think. Bellaghy and Slaughtneil as there were only 6 teams in minor A league last year and they got a bye into semi-final (open to correction on that).
Not sure how many games they would have had in 2011.

I stand corrected, Conor is 15-years-old, he'll be 16 next month. You can see two of his points in this clip from last night's Final: http://www.jeromequinnmedia.com/video/St-Pauls-201213/Glen/Best-Minor-Club-Team-in-Ireland-1230
