I got a bit of a slagging in the pub last night, based on my occasional reticent expression of mild disapproval of the Banty/Allen regime. Allegedly, there was a story in the Sunday Times about Noel Dempsey (yes, Comical Noel - "IMF? Nah. No IMF here.") being lined up for the job of County Board chairman. Frying pan/fire, etc. - much hilarity. I responded that I know when my chain is being yanked but, just in case, like - is there anything to this? Surely not? Anybody got the Sunday Times?

Ah just chain yanking..........they know you don't attend too many games anymore so have you down as a pub analyst.
Probably shouldn't have said that......must dive for cover  ;D

Geraghty as manager? Has he managed another team before?

Castledaly in Westmeath - not sure how he got on

Middling. Doing better now with Derek Heavin in charge. They have a quarter final replay in the championship against Maryland coming up. Maryland manager (Finbar Egan) is in for the Westmeath job along with Dessie Dolan Snr and Flanagan. Changing the subject title  :P
Westmeath - Home of the Christy Ring Cup...

I think O Connell would be a good man for this job.  He would have the undoubted big time experience, great leadership and would be ruthless enough to stand on anyone to get what he wants.  A Meath man through and through which should go down well in Cork.

10 nominees for the Meath job:

Paddy Carr,

Sean Kelly has already ruled himself out.
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

I know for a fact that Colm O'Rourke has the job, and you can take that from me.

Ard-Rí

Looks like it will be O'Rourke alright. Any indications as to what kind of back room team he would/will have?

Most importantly.. who's getting bumped up to the prime-time pundit slot? By the way, we have a great record beating Latrum lads.

Just sayin'.

does anyone know much about mick o'dowd, im not too farmiliar with him, i know he managed skyrne but how good is he?

Sea The Stars

Giles is sure to be involved no matter who gets the job. I'm sure his clubmen Mick O'Dowd and Colm O'Rourke would be happy with his services, as would his former Meath colleague Graham Geraghty. He's been involved in management teams with all three in the past.

Anyway, for what it's worth I'd favour taking a gamble of Geraghty. He's probably the one with the most enterprising ideas but at the same time has not spent as much time in management as the three in opposition.

Mick O'Dowd was player-manager for Skyrne in 2004 but his exploits as a player that many people remember him spearheading Skryne to Meath SFCs in 1999 and 2004 in a team that contained John Quinn, John McDermott and Trevor Giles. How much managing he did in 2004 is open to question - I think he was more of a coach than anything else. His reign as manager ended in 2007 or 2008 when Trevor Giles replaced him also as player-manager. I think he has an All-Ireland medal from 1999 too.

Andy McEntee will hopefully be unveiled as u21 manager - who else is there? Trevor again maybe? I'd favour McEntee whilst he should also retain the minor job for another year with Anythony Moyles and Nigel Crawford also getting involved once again.

It will have to be someone reasonably serious who can play as a foil to 2 clowns.

Former Skryne and Meath player Mick O'Dowd has tonight been confirmed as the official recommendation by the interview committee to be the next Meath manager.

In an official statement released on twitter, Meath GAA confirmed that O'Dowd will be the name put forward for ratification at next Monday night's Co Board meeting in Aras Tailteann.

O'Dowd will include Trevor Giles and Sean Kelly as his selectors and is expected to add Colm Brady to his team as fitness coach.

The position of Meath u-21 manager will also be ratified next Monday night with former Meath minor boss and current Simonstown coach Sean Barry being recommended for the role.

The official statement from Meath GAA via twitter read:

Coiste Bainisti has put forward for ratification to Co.Committee Mick O'Dowd as Meath Senior Football Manager. The Selectors are Trevor Giles & Sean Kelly...U21 Manager to be put forward for ratification is Sean Barry....Meeting on Monday 8/10 @8.0

Seems like a good appointment. Will be interesting to see what approach he takes.

They're quicker at electing presidents in the usa than we are at picking a new manager.
