Renewal of one of the greatest rivalries at inter-county level during our lifetime. Cork on the way back with a lot of younger players all over the pitch, strong performance v Tipp in Munster but have not been the most convincing since that game with wins over Offaly and Wexford. Waterford scraped past Clare in Munster and put up a good performance v Tipp in Munster final.

I feel JBM will have that bit extra up his sleeve for that game, and will benefit from an extremely strong bench. If Cork can sort out their key defensive positions then I can see them going on to meet Galway in the semi final.

I don't think we can though. JBM has shuffled the pack in defense but to no avail in terms of generating improvement in finding a dominant full-back or a half-back line that can compete in the air or for broken ball. We have to go with what we have and hope to limit the damage at this end.

I do agree with you that Cork have more options off the bench which may tell late on.

Waterford as a team have more big game experience and I am surprised the bookmakers have made Cork 4/6 favourites. Looks like another 50:50 game to me, will come down to a point or two between them at the end.

I think Stephen McDonnell is our best option at fullback. It's unfair the way he's been dropped after one bad game in the league final.

Eoin Larkin gave him some working, but there was a tonne of ball coming into Larkin that day. Thought he was injured or something, very harsh on him otherwise..

I still think Waterford will have more joy out of the Cork backs than the Cork forwards will have out of the Waterford ones.

Will be another good competitive game to watch which is all good.

1. Anthony Nash 2. Shane O Neill 3. Stephen Mc Donnell 4. Brian Murphy 5. Tom Kenny   6. Eoin Cadogan 7. Sean Óg Ó hAilpin 8. Daniel Kearney 9. Pa Cronin 10. Conor Lehane 11. Cian McCarthy 12. Niall McCarthy 13. Paudie O'Sullivan 14. Luke O'Farrell 15. Patrick Horgan.

Cork team named as above for Sunday. Has more of a familiarity to it as opposed to the ones that have played in the last two rounds. I feel that the back line on paper anyway has been strengthened, interested in seeing how they cope with Waterford on Sunday.

Cork by 4.

I'd rather the Cork team was more settled and it's a pity that some of our young lads have lost a bit of form, a few players aren't ready yet, Joyce is injured etc but we've a good strong squad available to us and it's a physically strong side. It's good to see Sean Og back, we do need that experience and leadership he'll offer, and he'll give us everything, hopefully he'll have a massive game for us.

There are a few brave calls in there but I think they've gotten the ballance right, this was always going to be a transitional year, but I think if they play to their full potential we've enough here and on the bench to get a result on Sunday.

You can't say they're not afraid to make changes. We know that this year is more about learning what we have and what they can offer, I'm still not convinced the Cork management are 100% sure that they know what their best team is, but I'm pleased with the selection and hopefully we'll get a win.

Waterford and Cork matches are always massive days out, there's a great long running rivalry there and the atmosphere is always incredible and hopefully Cork will come out winners in the end.

Can't wait.

Really looking forward to this, hoping to travel down.

Like all recent games between these two over the last 6/7 years I expect it to be very tight.

Fair play to Sean Óg for not whinging like last year and his endless press releases giving us by-weekly updates on how he still disagreed with Walsh's decision. He's got his reward with a start, hope he does well.

I backed Waterford at 13/8. It seems a good price. They are the proven team with many great leaders - Mullane, Prendergast, Brick and Moran to name a few. Like everyone else I think it will be very close and now I'm thinking I should have backed Waterford at 11/8 to go through to the next round as a draw is a strong possibility. Donal Og is a huge loss to Cork though and I think they'll feel it before the year is out. I hope Sean Og goes well but I'd be surprised if he does. It shows the heart of the guy that he's won his place back at 34 or 35 or whatever he is - fair achievement in itself.

I'd be interested to know how people here would rate john Mullane in terms of all the all-time greats. I think he's one of the top 3 hurlers of the last 10 years along with Henry and Tommy Walsh. I can't remember any forward who has delivered so consistently from play. It's hard to remember a championship game where he didn't score a few , win a few scoreable frees and generally cause mayhem in the opposing defence.

It was a real pity that the deise didn't manage an all ireland. They had the players but the timing was unfortunate with kilkenny peerless. A bit like roscommon 1977-80 who were up against kerry. Mullane deserved a celtic cross.

He surely did seafoid but he's not finished yet and still has an outside chance. They'll feel they have a great shot at getting to the final this year and from there anything can happen. If Galway don't do it then I hope Waterford do. It somehow seems like too much of a fairytale for it to happen though. Like Mayo winning the football.

I can't help feeling Waterford threw this away. The were getting well on top in the 2nd half and they made heavy work of pulling away from Cork and left the door open.
Cork will need to improve a lot to take on Galway.

CitySlicker11

Well most people on here got it right on the overall story of the game, though most tipped Waterford, always thought Cork had it in them to win this one. They got the mix just about right, great to see Sean Óg pop up with a point. Will need to improve massively for the next day, I think they will make the final now.

Disappointing for the deise. Kilkenny regain their composure. If tipp could beat them the next day galway would need to beat all of the old firm to win the championship. That would be a REAL all ireland.

It beats Galway winning All Irelands by just winning 2 games like in the old days!

I thought Waterford should have brought on Eoin Kelly, since they were so short of subs.
He might be a toolbox, but he'd have a better idea of where the posts are than some of the rest of their forwards.
