Any Politics heads out there might be able to answer this one.

Why is it that there have been so few executive bills passed by the NI Assembly in the last term taking in to account that there is no opposition?

Thats a very simple one to answer. The whole setup is a sham. Everyone knows that London call  the shots.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

'London' may well very be the answer. However, is there a technical answer: backloading possibly?

It's probably a lot to do with the fact that the DUP veto SF proposals and SF veto DUP proposals.

10 pts to the person that says " bad and all as it is, at least they aren't killing each other now." We will still be getting told that in 15 years.

It's all part of a cunning plan by Alistair McDonnell. The less you do, the more of a hike you are entitled to, in both your pay & in your pension. After all, we can't have retired politicians living in poverty.

It really is a glorified council, but having said that there's very little courage on show on the hill -  apart from Jim Allister, who's nuts. They turning into real politicians, indolent, corrupt & fearful of elections, hence the inertia.

Tony Baloney

+1 to all of the above. The Hill is overpopulated with people you wouldn't have stacking shelves in Tesco. They aren't capable of taking the big decisions and would rather use any excuse, whether it be tribalism or London interference to throw up smoke and mirrors. Plain useless.

Who in the name of god goes out & votes for them then?

Lets be thankful for small mercies, and, rejoice in the fact that they do not actually do anything. If they were to stop talking crap, and start doing it we would all be in the s--t

When they can't agree on what Christmas decorations to put up at City Hall you can hardly expect our politicians to agree on executive bills!
I'm gonna punch you in the ovary, that's what I'm gonna do. A straight shot. Right to the babymaker.

The Executive didn't meet to take any decisions for around 10 months during the last term.

Though he is a bit of a balloon funny enough I would agree with McDonnell in that I wouldnt mind seeing higher paid politicians at the top BUT only on the proviso that there less of them.

For one thing I believe we need to attract more people into politics that are highly qualified in technical fields like engineering etc, as we desperately need ideas and stimulus to make our private sector more competitive.

For example the likes of Basil McCrea, to give him credit, is a technically astute individual (qualifications in chemical engineering and computing) who has had the background to contribute to specialist private sector development in his tenure. Im not saying Basil has made a massive difference, but I would rather more of his ilk than say, ex primary teachers (no disrespect to teachers out there)
