Apologies to those who might not appreciate the mighty Zep but I've been updating the laptop with the whole back catalogue tonight and its always worth the while to remember how great they were.

I don't know many bands with the raw talent and the gall it takes to place bucolic folk next to rock music and not flich for a beat.

Unfortunately I'm a few too many years too young to have caught them live but c'est la vie.

Thanks Juice - I just wasted an hour on you tube watching Zep videos, and now herself has gone to bed and closed the door.

BTW - This one you posted - that indian woman goes on a bit. It's like she's trying to rival plant, she could have pulled back a bit!

thejuice

That wasn't an hour wasted, don't know what her bother is.

That Indian backing singer is actually trying to rival Sandy Denny who sang on the original in pretty much the same way.

Same here, althought I have managed to see Page & Plant in The Point and John Paul Jones in The Limelight!

Had the pleasure of seeing them in the Ulster hall, think it was 1969.

I misspoke. It's never a waste. Some great footage on you tube. Enjoyed the edge and jack white jamming Kashmir with Jimmy page, and also Jimmy page and John Paul jones joining the foo fighters.

Great tune, I like the Indian style of this version. Was the song loosely lord of the rings based??

thejuice

There is loads of references to LOTR in their early albums.

Ramble On,
Misty Mountain Hop,
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp,
Stairway to Heaven,

have either referenced or have a similar theme. If you look at the cover for the 4th album it is depicting the destruction of an old way of life. Lord of the Rings can be interpreted as an anti-industrialist novel and is a parable for the destruction of the environment by heavy industry.

The book was of cult status in the late 60's if I'm not mistaken and not worldly famous as it is now. I wonder will we see any Harry Potter based rock coming out.

I remember recording Travelling Riverside Blues of a music show in the 80's/early 90's (Finding Fax Future??), my intro to Zeppelin, a mighty tune that is hard to come by.
