If any of the other girls named is a better forward than Cora Staunton, then they must be some player. Staunton is, in my opinion, the best player of her generation. Kicked 1-9 in Sunday's All-Ireland Club final and was still giving out about how bad she played.

Yeah, she is probaby only averaging 5 to 6 points plus a game as apposed to 10 to 12 plus in her hayday!

She scored 2-15 for Carnacon in the Connacht Ladies Club championship against the Galway champs. 2-10, I think, was from play. It would be something else to know what she has scored over the course of her career.

If she doesn't get the platform, she's not going to get nominated really. Mayo were pulled out of the competition last year by their excuse for a county board and this year they didn't get far either. Cora was famously denied an All-Star before because she was sent-off in a club game.

Just heard the news that one of Longfords finest lady footballers Allison Smyth, played with Rathcline, died last night at the tender age of 29. She will be missed deeply
