How old is he? If he's young enough he can get the working holiday visa-that way he can try it out at a minimum of hassle and cost and if doesn't like it, no harm.

If he does he can apply for the various visas on offer

This site will provide you with everything as it's the official one

Just been reading through the past few pages,

Would say the money is better in Oz, better lifestyle and obviously weather. The downside is thats its far away from home, tax is high with a super annuation (most employers pay this), the cost of living is a lot higher, that includes rent, food and drink - 6 pack of beer is around $16 bucks, pint in a pub is anywhwere from $10-$15 bucks

There are companies heading to the UK & Ireland in the next few weeks to actively recruit for construction projects in WA but If your still in Ireland and you havent already made a move, even to London for work then your highly unlikely to make the move to Oz

Some people like home and some like to get out there, thats just the nature of people

On the workfront, can only comment on construction, mining & gas there should be plenty to go round for the next 5 - 7 years.

There is opportunities to make serious cash if you are prepared to work up in the mines or LNG projects but depends on whether you can adapt to the FIFO lifestyle.

http://www.pintprice.com/city.php?/Perth/Australia/eur.htm

not sure how accurate this wensite is but it has the price of a pint in perth at €5.20 or aus$7.30

(it has an ave price of lager for Ireland of 4.60 which wouldnt be far off the mark.)

I'm in Perth right now on hols and its the most expensive place i've ever been. Rarely get much change outta 10 bucks for a pint anywhere in city centre and closest suburbs
East coast is slightly cheaper

Depends on were and what your drinking,

was around $12 for a pint in the Fenians yesterday

never seen anywhere with the $5.40-$7.50 pint, if you know anyplaces then let me know

Aerlik

JBs in Leederville was a fcukin rip off yesterday.  $9 for a plastic glass of about two-thirds of a pint.  Music was shit, queued for an hour to get into a half full pub.  Food was disgusting.  Left and went to the Irish club.  $7 for a pint and good craic.  No news on Rosie's but if previous years were anything to go by, I missed nothing.

heard rosies closed the street off, but that came from a drunken corkite!!!

took and hour to get into the serving area but sure it will be the same for the game tomorrow night

Aerlik

Rosies used to close a bit of the street off, then charge you a fortune for a token eg $10 which would get you a can of guinness or heineken which was 'only' $7 and conveniently they never had change.   >:(

anyways, those of us who live here have seen through the scam and alot of us voted with our feet.  Also, the lines in the bar at the back need urgent cleaning.  dunno what bleach tastes like but couldn't be any worse than the shite masquerading as guinness served in there recently.  The Irish club has by far the best pint in the town and at a decent price.
