Well its a bit rich a third hand car salesman like Nixon calling a CEO of the Irish branch of a large European company a fool. Whatever faults Gilroy might have- being  a fool isn't one of them.
If Nixon wants to bring them over- then bring them over rather than having these cattle markets on GAA Premises.

Nixon loves publicity - the more he gets for free, the less he has to pay for it.

How else would Nixon get into the papers ? Sure aren't we now discussing him ?.

Let him do what wants to do, but we shouldn't be giving him a leg up.

What right does Gilroy have to stop those players attending that trial?

Is it not similar to you're employer telling you you'll be sacked if you attend an interview for another job? Oh, but wait, they're only amateur, so its even 'worse' than that...

He didn't stop them from attending. He just gave them a choice. Do they want to be AFL players or Dublin footballers. Which he is entitled to do.

Pat Gilroy did not stop the players from playing for Nixon.  He just told them that if they played in the trial, they would not be picked for Dublin's game at the weekend.  Proper order too.

What GAA premises were these "trials" held on?

There was a Galway kitbag there but I have no idea who was at the trial.

Can't blame the lads for going but it would be awful if Gaelic football were to lose Michael Murphy. It is joy to watch him in action and also Niall McKenna leaping for  ball brings back memories of his sad Eugene doing the same thing. Whatever about Tyrone it would be some loss to Donaghmore after Niall McGinn going to soccer. Hope they are not dragged away.

If they told Gilroy they were going to play in a soccer match, or climb a mountain, or go white-water rafting he's entitled to say, we've a game at the weekend so it's my way or the highway.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Such nonsense. FFS no-one is being dragged away to another sport. These lads want to go to play a professional sport so saying players are dragged away is complete sh1te.

Gilroy is entitled to pick who he wants. If he says to players that if they go out for pints this week they wont be selected for a squad then so be it. Similarly if he says chose soccer or gaelic then he is entitled to do this.
He isnt stopping players going to the trial, granted it may not be the best for the county but he is entitled to pick whatever players he wants and exclude players for extra-cirricular activities

The idea of travel, being a professional sports person is a huge attraction to young people.  It is a great opportunity for them.  Our own club lost someone to Sydney Swans in the AFL, but end of the day, you got to respect young people and their choices.

The GAA lose more people post18 due to poorly organised fixtures and young people who simply don't have the commitment or interest to keep on playing.

How's he going by the way, robertemmet?

It looks like Nixon had a few special words for Kielt.  Good to see him wearing the auld Na Piarsaigh club colours.  That'll not go down well with a few around the club, though!
To find his equal an Irishman is forced to talk to God!

i read in the star that nixon believes that the afl is light years ahead of the gaa in terms of fittness and body strenght and that any irish lads heading to oz have little or no chance of making it onto a first team. that being the case most of them will be back playing gaa inside a year nicely suntanned and  on crutches or in a wheelchair..
