A member of Armagh's All-Ireland winning minor squad is critically ill following a car crash.

Padraig Hollywood, 17, suffered serious head injuries in a one-vehicle crash close to Armagh city on Saturday night.

The Granemore club player was part of the Orchard panel which defeated Mayo 0-10 to 0-7 in the All-Ireland decider at Croke Park in September.

Two other teenagers were injured in the crash on the Newtownhamilton Road but their injuries are not serious.

Armagh minor manager Paul McShane has visited Padraig in hospital.

"He is still in intensive care and critically ill. However, the doctors seem content with his progress," he told the Belfast Telegraph.

"The next 24 to 48 hours will be critical.

"All his friends and colleagues in the minor panel are hoping for good news.

"Padraig is a popular and talented member of the squad. He is always in the panel and is a serious contender for a starting place next season."

God that's awful. Was going past this stretch of road on Sunday morning and it was still closed about 11am. We knew it must have been a bad bad crash as apparently the road had been closed since 2am.

Sincerely hope the young fella makes a full receovery. Good luck to him.

Terrible news, feel for the family and hope he makes a full recovery.  My prayers are with him and the family at this time.

Indeed, a treacherous enough few miles. Did the accident happen close to the Church and graveyard on the hill?

Yep - the cordon was just to the Armagh side of the church.

Sláinte Tac.

A few of the roads there are deceptively straight, but not much leeway on either side.
