Yesterdays Irish news back page was dominated by a possible return of martin Clarke also
Apparently he has bought a house in the Loughinisland area!

Another good signing for the island.

Back to the original topic here!! Yes Brendan Murphy has decided to return home.
Its great news for his club Rathvilly and especially for Carlow.

His story in Aus is that in his 1st few months there he was picked out as someone who would be on senior side by end of 1st season. But then he had injury after injury...it was crazy. He would just recover from 1 thing when he would damage or pull something else in a reserve game etc..

His 2 year contract ended, but they saw he had the talent to make it, and offered him a new 1 year deal.
But Bren was so pissed off with all the injuries and frustration he has endured since going to Aus that he decided to come home.
His main reason for coming home this year is that he is still u-21 for Carlow next year. And his knows this side has big potential.
Next years 21s will be the minor team that got to leinster final in 07 and only got beaten in AI qf by eventual champs Galway.

Carlow football as im sure most of you know is crap, but that minor side of 07 was/and still is our hope. Already 2 or 3 of them are on senior side and helped us to a win v Wicklow which stopped their promotion, and then ran Louth and Donegal close in championship.

Next year with Murphy back on board that 07 minor side is our 21s and could well shock all and bring a very very long (since 1944) awaited leinster title to Carlow!!

Maybe Pearse Hanley will jack it in so too.

Don't think he's going to have a choice.....hamstring has ruined him and his chances. Axe could fall soon

Michael Voss, the coach of the Brisbane Lions, is a huge wrap for Hanley - he might get another year. The reoccurence of soft tissue injuries at his age is a worry - clearly there is an ongoing problem which needs to be identified and addressed.

Sure Clarke isn't even getting a game now.

Amazing. He was such a talent to begin with. It's a very tough sport and fairly puts Kennelly's achievements in perspective.

I'm reading as well that Sydney are looking to the potential of taking Kennelly back again next year.

Clarke's team Collingwood are flying and are a big show for the flag (premiership). Clarke went home for his sister's wedding and hasn't been able to make it back into the side. His form in the seconds has been solid so he is only an injury away from getting back in. Collingwood have been playing lots of first year players who will probably make way for the more seasoned blokes like Clark. The slow ball drop stuff is bollocks - the only knock on Clarke is his inability to kick with both feet - there are a few players like that in the AFL but it certainly isn't fatal to an AFL career.

Another good news story for the GAA - return of another of our stars.

One of our stars? Getting a bit carried away there aren't we?

Eastern_Pride

Will Wicklow sign him up now then?
Do you think Usain Bolt could replace Thomas Walsh?

I read somewhere it was Clarkes kicking style that has left hime exposed. Article stated it takes him too long to get the ball to boot and opposition teams had picked up on this.

Id love to see Clarke back in the red and black. Ulster needs a strong Down.

It does in yer ballix!

Not a hope in hell. More chance of winning the Leinster Hurling.

Some potential midfield partnership- walsh and murphy.

There's a few boys who have suffered a lot of injuries when they went over there.

Walsh from Cavan seriously suffered and he was a great underage prospect. Then there's this fella in Hanley. I wonder what it is - the step up in training is maybe too severe.

Tyrone Dreamer

Great news for Carlow. It looks like the lads are risking serious injuries by going to the AFL. Seems to be a high proportion of the boys going over getting long term injuries.

Tyrone Dreamer

Wasnt he critical of Kyle Coney for returning home and accused Harte of putting pressure on him?

World of difference going from training from a couple of days per week to twice a day training. Thats the biggest problem. Some body types are not able for it. Any underlying latent injury weaknesses are exposed rapidly in that environment.

Also the physical contact is huge. You have to be bloody lucky in AFL as well. Best ones usually are lucky with injuries.
