Wexford would be behind Limerick & Meath surely. Also Sligo, Longford, Roscommon, Antrim & Wicklow would surely be a match for them.

Had to be  :D

A little secret: when you're the reigning Champs you're the best, until beaten, by definition.

Don't be so patronising FÓSB; of course we all acknowledge that Tyrone are reigning champions (we've been reminded often enough), but the thread title implied to me  that we should consider this year's Championship performances to date.

I think the order of the top 5 in this year's Championship will be;
1.Kerry
2.Cork
3.Mayo and Tyrone
5.Meath

Hard to grade teams from 1-12 so i have grouped teams.....

Have been consistently there the last couple of years
Kerry
Cork
Tyrone
Dublin

Can beat anyone on the big day....but fall short near end of championship

Mayo
Derry
Kildare
Galway (have not beaten anyone outside of Connacht since 2001....i think)

Up and down, unpredictable can cause an upset!

Donegal
Monaghan
Meath (no leinster since 2001)
Armagh

Could make breakthrough

Antrim
Wicklow
Sligo
Limerick

Fading fast

Laois
Westmeath
Down
Fermanagh

SLIGONIAN

Glad to see Sligo make into a few, just to point out something that wouldnt cross yere mind is Sligo had a 11 week break from nfl to CFSC start which killed us in the 1st half, Galway were damn lucky to get us that day, we beat a pretty good Tipp side in there backyard and it would of been comfortable had we not took foot off the pedal. Also how many teams had to go to Kerry to play Kerry none, ya we didnt win but that performance was brilliant and would beat alot of the teams in the top12. In fairness this yr the way the CSFC draw panned out was handicapping and it was tough luck getting Kerry away in qualifiers but it has to be taken into account. Everyone says Kerry underperformed but they got the warning the week before and also how motivated were they in our game, imagine the lynching they have got if they did lose would motivate them plenty id say. People can put Donegal, Galway, Monaghan, etc,, ahead of us but I dont see that way as it stands now, we are better than them just the way the draw fell we didnt get a chance to show it which is a pity.

Tyrone
Cork
Kerry
Mayo
Dublin
Kildare
Derry

Any of these cant be seperated IMO Sligo, Antrim, Wicklow, Armagh, Galway, Monaghan, Meath, Limerick, Donegal..... well I couldnt put any of them ahead of Sligo and couldnt put Sligo ahead of them either...

So Derry are the 4th best team in Ireland...after losing twice, once to donegal who were quickly found out....

Good one.  Going on performances surely Kerry wouldn't be number 1, they have been dire apart from yesterday while Cork had a poor day against Limerick.  Tyrone this year have looked impressive seeing off Armagh, Derry and Antrim with ease.

What exactly did you expect when you started this thread? That people would all say "yeah you're right, that's the top 12. You have it bang on."?
By their very nature, ranking like this are very subjective and naturally people will rate their own county higher than others might. If you are expecting a consensus then you're going to be waiting a long time.

Mayo and Kildare are above Derry, other than none of the rest.

I agree completely. It's just a shame that they keep losing. But nevertheless they still deserve their place right up there.

I'd have to disagree with you there most of the top 12s have had the same 8 or 9 in the same order, your 2 personal favourite teams and yere own. But maybe derry are perrenial chokers or theyre just not good enough...I suppose youre right but no-one else has derry anywhere near 4th.....
Do you think Usain Bolt could replace Thomas Walsh?

ludermor

How are some people ranking kildare ranked so high? They have put together a couple of decent performances but i cannot see how they can be ranked anywhere near 4th as some people have them.
