Loughnane goes mad again!

Yes Loughnane was a bit mad, but this madness brought the best out of an average Clare team.

This is a mistake a lot of people make, Clare weren't a great team but the certainly weren't an average team. They were one of the best teams of their era, an unexceptional era IMO, but Loughnane didn't take a bunch of no hopers and turn them in to champions rather he added the final touch to a good team with some of the best hurlers in the last 20 years (in their respective positions).

You're right - they were better than average - The Lohans, Daly, Baker, Jamesy et al.
