I'm sure Mod1 can speak for himself, although he's usually a lot wiser than me, and keeps his virtual mouth shut

First of all, the new rules are in place since January 31st. The PMs to hardstation are since the 4th of December, way before that. Also, the reason we brought in the rules was to make sure there was consistancy between all the moderators. Obviously it was much more of a 'judgement' call back then.

Secondly, it is quite clear there is no rule AT THE MOMENT in the new rules about someone having multiple aliases. What does apply is that all aliases are subject to the same rules, and if it becomes apparent that a poster has been banned under one alias and is using another username they may also be banned under that alias. Thirdly, there are also two very clear notes, which would allow moderators to take action if we really feel the need arises.
They are

'We reserve the right to amend these rules if an unforeseen circumstance arises, but due reason will be communicated for such a change.'

And

'We also reserve the right to take any action up to and including permanent ban for any issue not covered by the rules, if such an unforseen event is deemed to be serious enough.'

So, while having multiple aliases is not against the rules in itself, if those aliase are only being used to cause trouble, then ALL aliases of that person can be banned.

I don't know the details of the hardstation incident, but it's quite possible it falls into that sort of scenario.
