Two All Irelands delivered will not gurantee Mickey any loyalty, affection or respect, though he has earned and well desrves all of these.Look at the example of Pete Mc Grath who was treated shamefully by Down
Or the late Eamon Colman?

Well said O'Neill - Canavan was a bit part player in 2005 - in fact against Armagh in the Ullster final, he was nearly taken to bits by Armagh as soon as he came on ! And was then sent off by that arse of a ref. Michael Collins ( who was then sent on a long sabbatical ) but who has since re - emerged.  So it was not ALL about Canavan at all. Two All Irelands so far is not a bad return - so let's appreciate them instead of being negative.

Orangeman, look what happened when Canavan was sent off, Tyrone imploded. "taken to bits" by Armagh, you have to laugh!! He was pulled out of a row he started himself by the shirt. I know you're not allowed to touch GOD but it was hardly "taken to bits". Another thought occurred to me whilst watching Mugsy hit incessant wides on Saturday, the "you take it I don't mind" scenario over the last free kick with Peter Canavan in 05 semi final. Once I saw Canavan was going to take it it was going to go over, but I'd put my house on Mulligan missing it. It was ALL about Canavan in the semi final, he set up or scored your last three points. Mulligan is not a leader.
Keep your pecker hard and your powder dry and the world will turn.

Only after he ruined down football and set them back in the stone ages

Maybe if Down stopped worrying about if they're 'unloved', they might get somewhere soon.....

And what had Canavan got to do with the two matches against Dublin in 2005 - the two games that turned Tyrone's season around? Lazy cliched analysis. You're obviously not a follower of the game if you didn't think that 2005 brought enjoyment and fun. Some of the games then, especially the final, were of the highest quality in years.

Listen O'Neill your paranoia is equalled only by your susceptibility to hype. When the chips were down you relied almost totally on Canavn. The only other indispensable player Tyrone have had these past few seasons is Brian McGuigan. Once I knew he would be out this year I laid a little bet that Tyrone wouldn't make the semis. But obviously I am not a followe to be so silly as to do a thing like that .......
However may main other point was that Harte delivered big time - but he would NOT have done it without Canavan.
Fierce tame altogether

So what you're saying is that Tyrone are finished because Canavan isn't there ? Is that fair enough summary of these last few posts ? If so, how did they win this year's Ulster without him ? Fluke ? Cos Armagh weren't there ?

Fear ón Srath Bán

Jeez we are an awfully weak team, only two players. Doesn't say too much about the rest (of the teams in Ulster and beyond).
Carlsberg don't do Gombeenocracies, but by jaysus if they did...

Interesting that some people think that Canavan was capable of winning an All Ireland single-handed in his twilight years but yet couldn't do it when he was in his prime.

Mickey Harte delivered and let it not be taken away from him but it was all about Canavan and every match without him has proven that - not an easy player to like but the difference between success and failure. Tyrone however will remain unloved for the persistent fouling (so called blanket defence where almost every pundit fails to spot the constant body fouls that are not permitted under the rules of the game - is anyone on TV seriously capable of taking a match and analysing it honestly or do they not know the rules?) and their gamesmanship (especially the dives and dramatics). As an Ulsterman I would truly like to see any team come forward (even Tyrone) and bring the fun and enjoyment back into the sport - only Monagahan come close to this at present.
We have comee to a stage in Ulster where we not only tolerate puke football but are compelled to admire it by undue hype. Thanks God for the hurling.

Complete nonsense. If you go back to 2003 Tyrone beat Kerry in the AI semi-final with Canavan only playing the first 15 minutes and won the Final when he was playing on one leg and all he was good for was knocking over a few frees in the first half and giving the team a mental lift in the closing stages. By 2005 the team was very used to playing without him and PtG played a cameo role (very effecrive but to say "it was all about" him is daft) in the team. They ran up 2-18 against the Dubs without him and whilst he came up with 2 huge plays in the final Tyrone had their best spell in that match when he was on the bench. I dont know how many times its been said but here goes again, any team would miss a player like Peter Canavan but his role diminished down the years and Tyrone were ready to continue at the top when he retired. Its the loss of Brian McGuigan and the injury problems that have plagued the likes of O' Neill and Dooher which have really hit Tyrone.
Anybody who watches the two Tyrone Dublin games from 2005, the Armagh game, and the AI Final (could also throw in 2004 National League semi and 2003 Ulster Final) and then talk about puke football, fouling and lack of enjoyment is on a different planet. All great games of football. This Tyrone team came through the tragic loss of two of their players to have huge success in great matches, thats how they will be remembered (and they arent done yet) and only a very bitter individual would claim they will be seen as "unloved" and unduly hyped.

As for Tyrone only having two "indispensable" players in PoG and McGuigan thats wrong as well, its pretty obvious that the Tyrone defence needs Conor Gormley or theyre in trouble. When Cavanagh and Dooher are out the team also really struggles. If the spine of Gormley, Cavanagh, Dooher, McGuigan and O' Neill is 100% next summer (big ask) Tyrone will take a lot of stopping.

F@ck it, I'm going to put money on Tyrone at the weekend to win the All-Ireland in 2008. I've only bet on Tyrone twice. That was in 2003 and 2005. Not a bad track record ;)

goal and a point

Who is paddy tally training now? is he still with Galbally - Harte shoud call him back

orangeman

He's with Galbally and a damn good job he's done there as well - they're flying and competing with and beating the big teams. Credit where it's due. I'd say there'd be no going back to Tyrone with Mickey all the same - but then stranger things have happened - However I don't think fitness was a problem this year to be fair to the current trainer.
