Kildare were crowned Leinster Junior champions after a rip-roaring contest against a game Longford side this evening (Wednesday 26 June) making it their eleventh title at this level on a score line of Kildare 2-16 Longford 3-8.

It close throughout the opening half with just a point separating the sides at the break. However Kildare, with a great Cathal McNally goal in the second half pulled clear to win by four points.

Goals were the order of the opening half with Longford corner back Brendan Devine netting after six minutes. However Cian Bolton replied for the home side a few minutes later getting on the end of a Darren Barker '45' to level up.

Kildare on from there and were three clear despite senior panelist Keith Cribbin going off injured after a clash with Marty Mulvey.

Longford got back into it two minutes later when awarded an extremely soft penalty, converted by Paddy Dowd to level it up.

Points were exchanged before Hugh Mahon, showing his pace punched over the last point of the half to leave half time score reading Kildare 1-8 Longford 2-4.

Entertaining game. It's a pity Cribbin had to go off after he picked up what looked to be a painful knock because he was playing well. Johnny Byrne had a super game when he came on. Bolton, Mahon and McNally after he was introduced all contributed well in attack.

Here's hoping it's the start of a good week for Kildare football.

Why was the Final in Newbridge again Last night? 2011&12 finals were in Newbridge too between Cavan and Kildare. Cavan aren't allowed to play home games in Leinster Junior, but thought neutral venues should be for the Final
