QuoteIt is a real pity that Tom Humphries is no longer writing.

Well, if the allegations are true, which I don't hear of any denials, then, as Dinny says, f**k him.
Let him be punished appropriately. But he was a great writer all the same.

I thought so. Shame his writing talent didn't go hand in hand with an ethical character.

Ah here now. One of his most known tacks was trolling other sports to a degree that if he had been a poster here he'd be in the Mike Sheehy bracket - he was not a great writer.

Humphries was not a great writer only because he was an outstanding writer, a once-in-a-generation talent.

He got self-indulgent in his later years - a venial enough sin compared to the current allegations - but I had occasion to look back over some of his old stuff last Autumn and Tom Humprhies was brilliant. Even the match reporting, to say nothing of the features. He had a real gift. It's such a pity he wasted it as it seems he has.

I think he brought GAA writing onto a new level in the 90s. Before him you had the likes of Martin Brehony and Vincent Hogan and very little of their stuff will be of interest to future fans. But he did lose his way in the second half of the last decade.

And I'm sure Fr Brendan Smith was good at something to. Personally I couldnt give a shit. Laying hands on kids means you are a sc**bag - end of story.

A sc**bag! And a catalyst to destroying Ireland's 2002 World Cup for an exclusive story!  >:(
