Agree 100%...as for his Uncle....he was just a savage footballer.

I'd shorten it even a bit more, 5 Sams.

Kerry Mike

I heard TG4 are doing a programme about the brothers O'Se shortly.

Its interesting to see his worst day was losing the club final, just shows the bond to the clubs that all GAA players have or should have.

We would be goosed in Kerry without the 3 lads, they add a certain level of steel which every team needs but they are all excellent footballers in their own right, and all provide inspirational moments for both team and fans. Be it a soaring Darragh catch, Tomas driving out of the backs with his distinctive hop and solo or the economical and excellent defending of Marc.

As for comparing the 4 medals Darragh has won to the 8 of Uncle Paidi, its impossible to compare eras, the 70's and 80's though providing less games were very tough to win in their own right, there were some damn good teams about back, Cork , Dublin, Offaly, Roscommon, Monaghan and Tyrone in 86 all had great chances of beating Kerry and on many occasions Kerry were lucky to pull through. Of course winning 4 in the last 11 years is a great achievement for Darragh and he can thank in particular Maurice Fitz in 1997 and Seamus Moynihan in 2000 for sharing the workload, and remember he played no part in the 2004 final. But Darragh has been the team leader over the last few years, his inspiring last minute goal line catches saving us from defeat against Limerick remain in the memory. Hopefully he will remain injury free all summer.

If Darragh plucked a 5th medal or dare I say even a 6th, his achievement in what effectively was a more competitive era for Gaelic football in Ireland would surely better the golden ears guys who won 8 ai s many of them after playing 3 games.  eh Mike?

Dry them ffs!

To the top ....

I believe Darragh has played 20 counties in championship . Defeated 18 ( 5  M, 4 C , 3L , 6U) .

The exceptions:

Meath & Tyrone.

Excellent article and excellent player.

Of course being from Tyrone we would often have looked at the ugly side of his game & be glad to see him getting sent off etc but there's no denying it he's a hell of a player and we'd love to have a midfielder of his ability.

Thought it was terrible what Pat Kenny did to him on live telly last year regarding the Dooher photogragh lifting Sam.

Interesting stat there about Meath & Tyrone.
Will he retire this year when he puts those two to bed?

Glensman

What did Pat Kenny do to him last year?

He might beat Meath...but then surely he'll have to beat Cork?

Pat embarrassed him on the Late Late show by showing him a big picture of Dooher lifting Sam and asking him how does that make you feel during the cringeworthy 125 years of GAA show.

So you reckon if Kerry beat Meath then Cork will have to beat Tyrone. Interesting.  ::)

He tells a story. You want to understand about Páidí and Ventry and football and how it's all tangled up. So he tells a story about the night his dad went to the church. Micheál Ó Sé, brother of Páidí and father of Fergal, Darragh, Marc and Tomás, is laid out in the church. Mourners are filing past the coffin blessing themselves and coming to shake hands in condolence.

One poor neighbour is suffering from a bad hernia and the protrusion under the belt of his trousers lurks at eye level for the bereaved.

"That," says Páidí to the nephews, "is some piece of artillery to have at a funeral!" Heads bow and shoulders rock.

"We were cracking up. You go to a sad funeral it's the end of the world, but things crack on. No hitch in a hearse. You can't bring anything with you. You have to make the most of life. Can't look back. Páidí has a great attitude like that. He has a great way of looking at things. The black magic I call it. He can laugh at the queerest things. We have a bit of that."

Was just taking this wee bit from the interview. Hilarious. Which shows that you have to put into context anything and everything that Paidi comes out with. The animals quote was in hindsight quite harmless but it was winter time and slow news week for GAA and they made it into a big thing. Paidi seems to have a great outlook on life.
